im used to working on chevys so this is new to me,, i have a 2001 xj automatic with a 4.0 my question is how to i remove the transmission lines at the transmission itself there leaking fluid and there appears to be some plastic collar around the lines i have no idea where to even start.. also whats the switch called in the rear of the transfer case called.. it is right before the driveshaft it bolts into the transfer case rear retainer???

Carefully pry the plastic collar away from the fitting. On the fitting itself where the plastic collar used to be is a C-clip retainer. with the use of a small screwdriver or a small pick, carefully remove the C-clip. lightly wiggle and twist on the line as you pull it out.

This is called VSS, Vehicle speed sensor.

On the VSS, Yes, you can replace just the o-rings. Keep in mind that the sensor is clocked inside that offset housing so make sure that you make a refference mark to where you can line it back to its original orientation to the base. The Trans. line fitting on the other hand is not as lucky to get an o-ring replacement at least i've never heard of any available replacement for just the o-ring. I've always just replaced the fitting, buy a new one and get a free line fitting. I hope this helps.
