Just bought a set of two stainless KC's used but like new however when they sold their Jeep they striped itof the lights but not the relay or switch. I need to buy a relay but do not know where to buy one or what to ask for. Can you help? Thanks in advance for any help....

I know you can buy a lighting wiring kit from just about any local auto parts store. I'm not sure of the amperage of the relay, they are usually for the crappy 50watt setups used on the ricers. Hope this helps, I'd try to call KC first and price their origional setup[addsig]

Just go to any local 4 wheel drive shop and they should have what you're looking for. When I bought my KC's for my old truck, they didn't come with any relays or switches or anything. The shop sold me a heavy duty wiring kit that included the relays, fuses, switches and wire for the lights. The KC's use a lot of power so make sure you use the proper guage wire and a heavy duty relay.[addsig]

I might be a big dummie but is a relay needed and what does it do?[addsig]

a relay basically controls the amount of juice coming from your battery...without a relay you can over load the light/electronic device because it has too much power....do you really need them.....yes, relays prevent you from blowing out the lights. if you don't have the relay then the electricity isn't controlled and you have to go buy a new bulb[addsig]

.......... as for what it is.......it's just a little black boxes that has wires coming in and out of it......about 2 cubic inches for the relays used for kc's [addsig]

how many amps relay do I buy and do I put it between the battery and switch or the switch and light[addsig]

somewhere dry......I'd just mount it concealed up under the dash, just make sure it's close to somewhere that you can easily run wires to the engine bay[addsig]

Since you need a 12 volt battery source to work the relay,i recommend you put them in the engine compartment, you can run off the battery and only one wire goes into the interior to the switch. to power the switch you can run off the fuse box.and then ground the switch inside.
