Does the VIN on the windshield match the firewall? I bet a previous owner swapped the winshield and /or re-vinned the jeep for another reason, example title issue's or avoid smog test.

that is clearly a CJ 7, also I think I see 6 bolt hubs on the front which would lead me to believe it's a wide trac which means it is most likely a post 1980 jeep CJ7. what does the dash board look like?

where's your spare tire? And dont tell us your honeys wearing it.

Very funny...
I ditched the spare mount cuz as soon as my quasi-step rear bumper arrives that will be how the kids enter/exit everyday..
Tired of saying "look out for the valve stem" every time ;-)
Besides... What good is a little spare tire ... Not like I'm going to hang a 44 off the tail end ;-)

Johnny-
I counted 5 lugs on the wheels but at any rate all of the CJs I’ve owned didn’t have a window VIN like a Wrangler but rather had a sticker somewhere inside the tub, mostly on the dash. I had a 1980 CJ5 where the sticker was on the inside of the tub just below the driver’s side door. The sticker was placed upside down so if you stood at the door and leaned in with your head down you could read it. Weird but that’s the way it was.

no 6 bolt lock out hubs instead of the 5 bolt, not wheel studs. As far as all the jeeps I've owned, all narrow trac front axles had 5 bolt hub assemballys, I have not owned many wide tracs CJ axles, but as far as I can recall, all were 6 bolt hubs.

As for the sticker, don't recall seeing a sticker, my 2a has a plate on the dash, but I was not even thinking 2a's, I simply don't recall a sticker on a 73 and newer CJ dash.
I do recall there being a vin plate just under the booster on the fire wall that was attached to the out side of the pedal assemablly and I could have sworn that they also had the vin plate rivited directly to the windshield (not the motor cover like a YJ)

I could be mistaken, I'm gonna check CJ windshields I have at home and dashes; I have probably 10-12 CJ dashes hanging in my shed.

My '79 CJ-5 has the sticker that's upside down. It also has a vin on the windshield frame and the firewall next to the master cyl but they don't match.Lol When I got mine the guy handed me the title folded with a matching vin plate in it. He said he had removed it and was also gonna pull the engine/trans and crush the rest. Maybe it was gonna go to a Jeep that had no paperwork, maybe it was gonna go on a coffiee mug. It didn't matter to me. Your jeep may have had paperwork issues at one time. I wouldn't worry about it, them mudholes could care less whether it's a CJ5, 6, 7,8, or what have you. As long as you have enough paperwork to get it tagged your in good shape. CJ's are at the age where if they're stolen nobodys gonna look for them anyway.

My 78 CJ5 has no VIN plate on the windshield, just the sticker on the driver’s side of the dash. As I remember the sticker on the 72 CJ5 I had was over by the clove box and my 47 CJ2A also had a metal plate on the dash too.

The book shows the Warn lockout hubs as six bolts up to and including 1980. From 1981 & up they were 5 bolt.
