wrangler gas tank

I have a 1997 jeep wrangler 2.5 with the 15 gallon tank. And I was wondering if there was a valve or a stopper right at the fuel neck inside the tank

What's the problem? Are you having gas spurt out when you finish filling up (many TJs have this problem).

I carry a pair of gloves when I fill my yj because theres a constant mist of fuel comming from the nozzle, I understand thats pretty much normal for a YJ but Im not sure about a TJ

wow, that is bad. i am surprised the epa hasn;t done anything about that

There is a Wierd sound coming from my tank. Sounds like a check valve or something moving around in one spot hitting the tank when its near a full tank. But its not the pick up screen cuz it near the top.

There is no valve or stopper at the top, and the pickup screen is at the bottom at the pump.

Your fill tube extends down into the tank further than it does in a 4.0L TJ, limiting your fillup to 15gal. Many 2.5L TJ owners trim that fill tube by reaching in through the pickup hole increasing capacity to 19gal.

Will I need to modify the float or the pump in anyway? Do I drop the tank to trim that tube

No need to modify the pump or sending unit.

Yes, you need to drop the tank to increase the capacity on a TJ, reaching in through the hole for the sending unit.

A '91-'95 YJ can be increased from 15 to 20gal without dropping the tank :D

There is a revised fuel tank for a slow fuel fill or fuel spitting out. 52018687ABFuel Tank - 15 gallon
52018768ABFuel Tank - 19 gallon

That's interesting my TJ only holds 10 gallons and it's a 2.5 liter also.

R u filling up Ur tank right when the light comes on? Cuz when I do that I only fill up to about 8-10 gallons then the pump stops. My guess OS when the light comes on there is still 4-5 more gallons in the tank. So u do have a 15 gallon tank

Is there a thread on here that shows me how to do that?
