Winches

As far as winching out my 3700lb GVWR Wrangler, I'm feeling pretty confident that a 8000 lb winch won't give me problems using the stock alternator and a really good battery. Make the arguement about speed and "pulling harder", but Line speed is not an issue for me, it is getting unstuck that matters. That is another advantage of the cheaper Ramsey rep 8000e (or the newer 8500e), is is slower but draws merely 170A@4000Lbs, and 230A@6000lbs.

Check out the new FourWheeler Mag, they have a great write up Beyond winching basics. Shows you how to calculate loads, slope, type of stuck, and what your winches "PULL RATE" really is depending on were you are on the spool. Not to mention a ton a great ideas for pulling things in strange directions. (Since when is a straight ahead winch pull ever happen.) Anyways very informative. I learned alot. Worth the price of the mag, Which I can't say very often about mags.
