will this Bogger fit?

Isn't the drag link the bar that connects to the pitman arm? I am putting my steering stabilizer on.

Another concern with the better axles is steering. Won't that cost an arm and a leg?

I wouldn't think that finding axles in LA would be that difficult. They grow on trees in 'bama. I've got a 3/4 ton tree in the back yard that's ready to bloom. You want some? (kidding)
You should be able to find a 3/4 or 1 ton Ford sitting by some old lady's barn just beggin to be picked clean. If you truly want to run the 38's then its the only way to go. You can get weld on fullwidth kits from www.bluetorchfab.com It incorporates a new bumper and shackle reversal with the setup. It's almost too easy and looks pimpin. Then all you have to do is weld one perch on the front and two on the rear.
For steering, the chevy pump is probably the same as the one you have now. I believe both were made by Saginaw they just use different mounts. If you are not going get in the rocks, then you can get away with using the factory power steering with the bent drag link.
You could probably get away with running the factory springs done SOA. It will give you 5-6" of lift then if you need it you have the body lift to fall back on.
It's better to do it right once than buy a set of high dollar wheels only to break axles then upgrade and have to buy another set of 8 lug wheels (cause I guarantee that if you put a 38" Bogger on there, you're not going back).
BTW...check E-bay for axles if you get desperate.

You plan on installing 38.5" boggers and a 350, and you're worried about steering costing an arm and a leg? It'll likely be the least of your expenses.

Have you scoured the junkyards for axles? Look at Jeep J20, J30, J2000, and J3000 jeep pickups and you'll find some good heavy axles. The front diff will be on the passenger side, so you'll have to address the transfer case drop being on the wrong side.

Do the axles first, then worry about the engine and 38.5" tires. If the engine is already in the works, still do the axle before the tires. Don't put the cart before the horse.

I already have the setup for the driver side drop. So, it would be a waste of money to now switch to passenger side drop. I have to work with what I have now. There are no Jeep trucks or any Jeep products in our junk yards here. If anyone knows of a junk yard in Mississippi with some let me know please.

LOOK WHAT I GOT MYSELF INTO!!!!

Any local jeep clubs? Look around to anybody into wheelin or mud bogs, they'll steer you in the right direction.

For driver's side drop front axle look to the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, late '80s and early '90s. They have the D44 front with driver's side diff. The 38.5" will be pushing this axle, but it will work. Aftermarket axleshafts would be a plus.

No local jeep clubs, but I guess I just have to start looking. You have a point to do it right the first time. So I should look into Dana 44's? Are they wider than what I have now? The thought of 38's really got me going :). Keep me posted in case you find some nice axles. Thanks Bounty.

I am about to turn my daily driving Jeep into a driveway magnet. I might buy my friends Nissan Pickup for driving to work and school.

Go to general chat and then to "Put a face with a name", page 5 if you want to see what 2.5" spring in SOA looks like with a 39.5" Bogger. No body lift, trimmed fenders with TJ flares.
