got another tj

we picked up an 02 sport yesterday afternoon. it has been sitting since 2019 since the guy had a heart attack and then the crank sensor went out. he said he cannot work on anything anymore so it just sat. it was his beach jeep so the underside is pretty rusty but the engine and trans are solid, he says. he said the whole jeep actually is great, once the sensor is replaced. its got a lot of add on junk that my son likes so even if the frame is worse then we think, the mounts and steps, cruise control, and a good transmission are worth the 1k we paid for it. its also got 15x10 inch nice looking aluminum wheels. unfortunately, since it sat, the tires that he had just put on are no good anymore, i think.

anyways, 1k for what could possibly be a decent beach jeep with kc lights on the windshield, front and rear bumpers, instatrunk, rims, super clean interior, and 4.0 with automatic should be ok even if we have to drain the tank and replace the fuel pump along with the crank sensor.

i will put some pics up later.

$1000 for a TJ? That sounds like a steal! I'm looking for a Jeep for my 15 year old son now, and they aren't cheap.

I'm jealous

A little spray foam and a coat of black bed liner spray and then it's, "yeah, the frame looks great!"

Seriously, it sounds like you got a deal even if you just part it out.

Pics would be welcome.

dang. i took a few more pictures yesterday to post since i only had one and i forgot to post them. now i am at work again and can't load from my phone

Finally put the pictures up

Rough. No holes but everything is rusty

Well, further cleaning and messing around ahows some small holes under the carpet by the foot areas. And the jeeo starts on fuel being sprayed in and tb and idles great but i think the fuel pump is frozen. And the underside is so rusty that i dont know if we woll be able to drop the tank.

We will dind out one of these days

updates:

i crawled under the 1k tj in search of the crank sensor and got it changed out with my youngest son. while under there i started whacking frame stuff with a small hammer and could find nowhere where anythign went through or sounded tinny and thin. its all solid except some flake on the outside which makes it look terrible so the 1k tj might be an even better deal then we thought.

we found the fuse to the fuel system burned because someone had put a 10a in its spot versus the 20a it should have. replaced it with no improvement in fueling so we took the easy route and cut an access panel in the rear floor. we got the pump out and it is dead. its completely gunked up and rusted so i just ordered a new fuel pump assembly to drop in instead of playing with trying to change just the pump and maybe something else in the assembly being gunked up or corroded internally. hopefully in a few days, the 1k tj starts right up because it currently runs perfectly on gas sprayed into the tb.

it need tires still, and the normal fluids and junk changed form sitting so long

The new parts jeep started today. The new fuel pump came in so we dropped it in and the jeep fired right up
