The O's couldn't hit a field goal with a 9 iron.......

Who could?

Well, they could if they worked on their full court press, dribbling, and slapshots. But when they get near the wicket, they always seem to fumble the ball and wind up in the penalty box for the rest of the quarter. But at least the halftime shows are good.......

so, tc, how bout them sox?
I was waiting for that. Man David Wells pitched a heck of a game! I'd wait before getting too exited, it was thier the first game. Well we share first place until tonight...

i wouldnt worry about the yankees just yet.

hey, you might find this funny, i know you're a yanks fan, but you can still appreciate the humor, some guy calls boston sports radio yesterday and says, "hey, the yankees won 19-8 last night, we all know what happens after they win by that score, they dont win another game for the rest of the season!"

that said, obviously the guy was being sarcastic, and i think they'll win plenty more games this year.

Ouch that one hurt...Nothing like kicking someone while they are down :)

For all the ribbing I have given Sox fans over the past 25 years, I guess I have to take some now. (yeah I can appreciate the humor, but it still hurts :( )

TC, I think you just jinxed your O's the sox are taking it to them now.

I don't believe in luck. I don't believe in curses either, which is why I posted the red sox would come back when they were down 3 games last year.

Well the sox got 2 of 2, but after tonight we're tied at first again. Gee the Yanks are tied for last agin.. hmmm funny but that is almost as refreshing

bchcky, I grew up in Mass. Went to Fenway often as a kid, watching Fisk, Rice, Yaz, Tiant and the bunch play. Moved here at 11 yrs old and slowly became an O's fan. It is tough rooting against the Sox and the only time I do is when they play the O's.

They do it again on Monday...

there's a chance i'm moving to baltimore in a year. i thought about the whole orioles thing. i dont wish anything bad upon them. but i'm a sox fan through and through. no way i could ever root for a division rival, or another league team for that matter. thats not to say i wouldnt mind watching the o's play.

Vacuum leak

Well I wouldn't have either, but I was a young kid when I moved and after 24 years of being here the O's are my team - win or lose, do or die... I bleed black and orange.

Where do you go to see the steroid use statistics?

I'd also like to find the site that lists the criminal activity statistics of the players.

you might want to check out your link again TC, i'm not sure it says what you wanted it to say.

i said on the first page of this thread that i didnt think they'd keep it up. they'll make it a race, but if the sox get the bullpen help they need, the O's havent got a prayer. the wild card could easily come out of the west or central this season. you said the O's have the best lineup in baseball before... take a look at who leads the MAJORS in runs scored, team BA, and team OBP. i'll give you a hint, its not the orioles. roberts is doing great, and he's fun to watch, but the sox leadoff hitter isnt too shabby either.

just wanted to point out that there's a new leader on the block, not that it matters now, i could care less honestly. but its a start, and if it results in something good in september, i'm all for it.

Ye of little faith!

On the contrary I believe they not only have a prayer (they at least have mine ;) ), but they will keep it up. Sure they're slumping a bit but injuries will do that. As they get healthy and come back the win column will be lit up again. The Sox are a solid club... I hope it to be neck & neck the whole season. 1st place, wild card... they will be the ones but who will be where is yet to be seen.

ah yes the famous injury line. shall we play that game? damon's had a hurt shoulder all year, and thats scary when you look at the numbers he's put up thus far. renteria's been nursing a sore wrist for the past few weeks as well, but he couldnt get a day off, because our utility infielder had two bum legs. kevin youkilis came in to pinch run last week of all people. david wells enjoyed a stint on the disabled list. wade miller didnt even start the season with the team. ohhh, and there's that curt schilling guy too, heard of him? he's yet to be fully healthy this year. and for anyone who wasnt under a rock in october last year, they know what a fully healthy curt schilling can do.

i'm merely pointing it out. my opinion is simply that the sox have a better team top to bottom. so as quick as you were to point out and start this thread when they enjoyed their first days in first place, i'm simply returning the favor, and reminding you what your link now says for first place...

At least the NBA's over with!!! Think they'll ever play hockey again?

Man I hope hockey comes back. I cant believe they can afford to sit out another year and the have the league not completely fold.

I don't think they CAN afford it. The players just need to bite the bullet or else the will kill the golden, albeit tarnished, goose. Unemployment is worse than a salary cap.

If they do agree to some sort of revenue reflected cap that's all great. But there won't be much revenue left if the lock out continues. The owners are just doing what ALL business must do: pay market price for their employees. I don't know where the players union get's off trying to ask for money that isn't there.

But there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Sounds like the Players are going to accept the most recent offer:

http://www.canada.com/sports/hockey/story.html?id=0655eb3b-e425-400e-b64c-2ef8f34d1a50

Pittsburgh Penguins owner-player Mario Lemieux said NHLers will almost certainly get a much worse deal in the soon-to-be-approved labour agreement than they would have got by accepting the owners' offer in February.
"They should have taken the deal back in February," Lemieux said Thursday at his charity golf tournament, referring to the last-gasp negotiations that took place just before the 2004-05 season was cancelled. "The cap was at $42.5 million (US), that was the offer from the owners, now it looks like it's going to be a lot less than that."

Here's another:
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/hockey/11993759.htm

In speaking to the media, Roenick criticized the players union for not taking the deal the NHL offered in February and for ignoring the voice of a few players who stressed that the offer was better than the contract they are close to signing.

"The deal in February beats the (bleep) out of the deal we're gonna sign in July," Roenick said.

But Roenick tends to get more attention when he speaks out, particularly when he expresses his feelings about the reputation of the game and the players in the wake of the lost season, and his thoughts on the fans.

"Unfortunately, we had to go through a whole year to realize all the (bleep) that was going on throughout the whole year and not realize we just had to get a game on the ice," he said. "And we've hurt our league, we've hurt the reputation of our league and we've hurt the integrity of our league by sticking up for something that might not have been the right thing to do."

JR is my favorite player. That dude is awesome.

Nice sig pic bchcky. Boy they took a spankin' tonight. With all the injuries on their pitching staff they know what the O's dealt with the month leading up to the All-Star break. The O's should have most everyone back in a week or so.

By the way, they enjoyed 1st longer than their 1st days... and, by the way, here they come again (now that we don't need to use the ol' "injury line" ;)

there is no deadlier 1-2 combo than manny and big papi. most people think manny is having an off year, and he had 80 rbi at the break. if thats an off year, i'll take it.

we still gotta get schilling figured out. he pitched a good inning tonight, but i'm not sold yet that he's healthy. if he can help them for now from the pen i'm all for it. but nobody will argue that he's most valuable as the #1 starter. and they wont get far in the playoffs without him either. man do i love baseball.
