What are these on my tires and are they needed?

I bought a 2018 Wrangler JL Sport a few months ago and noticed I have these little silver things on my black wheels which are ugly and I have no idea what they are. I haven't seen them on any other vehicles except a few other JLs. Anyone know what they are and if they are safe to remove? Thanks!

If they really bug you, you can go to a tire shop and ask them if they can put them on the inside so you can't see them. That's why you don't see them too often.

If you want to learn something else about them, I know people that take old wheel weights from tire stores and melt them down to make bullets.
