Wanting to Buy Used Wrangler

I am currently looking to buy a used Wrangler. As I look, I see lots of them that have high mileage. I am not sure how much mileage is too much. I am not looking to spend a lot of money because I am in between college and graduate school. Please help. Thanks in advance!

When I bought my wrangler, I took a look at the worst case scenario - are you saving enough money on the deal that you could replace the engine if you have to. If you are only saving like $400, but getting a Jeep with an extra 30,000 miles, then it probably isn't worth it.

I say go find a couple of Jeeps that are available in your area, and post the specs here.

What is your budget? I think that would be starting point. Then see what is available for that budget. Also depends on what you want on it.

My YJ just now hit 215,000 and i am starting to put money on the back burner for a new 6cyl.. but I think that i have at least another five thousand miles before things get to be to serious.

What model are you looking for? Around here you can pick up a 4cyl stick for about 2K...

I was looking at a TJ. I would like to spend less than 5000. So, it sounds like I could get a pretty decent buy for that.

I was talking to a friend, and he told me to try and get a 4.0 with a manual trans. Is this good?

You can find a fairly Good Wrangler for $5,000.. Definitely yes on the 4.0 liter engine.. The transmission question is more of a preference.. I particularly prefer the manual transmission for longevity. there isn't much that goes wrong on a manual trans. exept for the normal wear and tear like the clutch assy.. Auto trans. are a little more complicated when something starts failing on the mechanical or hydraulic components..if you are to be dependent on a shop to fix that for you, it will run you on some pricey repairs..again, this is just my opinion..

Go to auto trader .com and put price range and options what ever you like and you should get so decent choices. For $5,000 you should be able to get something pretty decent without really high mileage good luck!
