V8 swap in TJ

Peterbilt

I want to put a 350 with th350 into my tj.
I guess I'm looking for the pros and cons with going this route
Its currently a 4cyl with ax5
Am I going to run into a bunch of crap using this trans

That trans will live about an hour. Behind a 350. Ax-15 is better route if you want to stick with a manual. Cons will be getting everything rounded up and installed with the anticipation of driving it pros is you will absolutely love it and never look back. It will be one fun rig.

I am not going to use the Ax-5 , I'm going to use the th350 (Chevy automatic) I just have not figured out what crossmember and mounts to use

Oh ok sorry misread. Good choice on trans. Have you checked out Novak adapters? Very good info on jeep swaps. They've done it all.

Peter, run over to Novak Adaptors web site. They have all the information you need to make this conversion. There knowledge bace will give you all the right info you need.

What year TJ?
In most states, inorder for the vehicle to 1. maintain ODBII compliancy and 2. further pass any emissions, the motor needs to be from the same year or newer model, so for example, if your jeep is a 2003, 2002 was the last year for the 350 and was found in the F-body cars as an LS1 (and are harder to find and cost a lot more $$) 2000 was the last year for the vortec 350 in the 3/4-1 ton trucks and 1/2 ton tahoes and suburbans (and GMC counter parts) so a legal swap may not be permitted.

Also why a TH350, with a 700r4 with deeper 1st gear and an overdrive for the same cost it seams silly to run a TH350. If it were me, I would source a 5.3 LS motor and run the 4l60e trans. The 4l60E is the same exact trans as the 700r4, with a beefier 3 piece case and computer controlled shifting for optimal milage and performance.

You can get junk yard motors and trans for about a grand, complete with ECM, trans module and entire wiring harness. You will get a drivetrain that is far superior to a 350/350 combo. Plus, throw a cam and a hot tune at a 5.3 for about $400 and you can make well north of 350-400 hp easily.

The TJ is a 98 and I live in Pa so all I need for insp is a visual of the smog.. Doesn't need to be hooked up (and 3 of my friends are insp mechanics so as long it's safe to drive it will pass) and I'm going carbed so that's why I'm picking the th350 ( no electronics needed) this will not be a daily driver but just for fun but I don't want a big peace of crap or a big headache that's why I posted to make sure I'm not making a mistake with this combo

I would run EFI over carb any day of the week, especially if you plan on wheeling it. The EFI kits now are only a couple wires more than if your running a carb.
