I have a 88 yj wrangler but it has a 4.0 6cylinder from a 97 cherokee do I need to get the transmission from da Cherokee?? Cause I just messed up my transmission!! :,(

Whats in there now? AX15 or the AW4? Not sure if you have a 5 speed or automatic.

IT'S A 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION STOCK.. its the transmission from da actual 88 jeep they just changed the engine so I'm guessing da engine was to much for da transmission cause da gears broke

It makes it a BA10 or an AX5. Do you know what the engine the jeep had before the 4L went in it? I would start looking for an old AX15 or the newer NV3550 to put in it. BA10 and AX5 are light duty transmissions.

no i dont no wat engine it had before but im guessing it had the original carburator engine which da 88 yj has... hey thanx for the answers bro i appreciate it

The 88 with a 4.2L had the BA10 and Carter BBD. 2.5L had an AX5 and I think with a throttle body injected carb. You might be able to crawl under and see if there is a tag on the transmission...that should help figure out what one it is.

Hey bro I was looking at the nv3550 at it says its for years 2000 to 2004 does it matter or will it still fit?

I just did a NV3550 conversion on my 88 YJ with the 4.2L. Just had to change the bell housing and a new slave cylinder for the clutch. Went in pretty easy. Did you ever pop under and look for the tag to see what kind you have? If you got a 4.0L from a cherokee you might have an AX15 in there already..in that case just find a new one, they're easy to come by.
