tow hooks on 99 ZJ

We are trying to install tow hooks on his 99 ZJ but there doesn't seem to be anyway to attack them. The radiator support is the only thing to attach and that doesn't seem very safe...any suggestions?

if its a 99 its not a zj, its a wj. I would guess you could have to drill holes on the frame rails if there are none available.

Ha ha you're right, mixed up my Jeep with his. The one I'm asking about is a 98, sorry.

There should be a flat reinforced section both on left and right on radiator support like so

the holes should be pre drilled from the factory


you would be surprized how strong that section of radiator support is its also were the bumper ties in

54cj3b, Thanks for the info, however it is not the same as Dustin's 98.... there are no pre-drilled holes or anything... but we'll keep trying! I'll take another picture tonight looking up from the bottom...

I think we are going to just make a steel plate to match the holes where the small pieces of steel are sticking out of the oval holes in the front of the frame on the original pictures...

The strongest section of that lower support is where the arrows are it should be double plated there from the factory in picture below so you drill out in the right spot
also use washers on nut side

you should be able to slip a wrench behind to hold nuts while you tighten bolt from outside

Hooks installed. Couldn't put em where you were showing as the flange depth wasn't enough to get both bolts into. So I improvised and put em om the bottom of the frame rails.
