RE: First time Off-roading

Hello fellow jeep enthusiasts, i am in need of some expert advice. I have a 2000 TJ auto(unfortunatly) but when ever i put it into 4x4 high or low, i hear a terrible winding sound as i speed up. I cant exactly tell if its from the t-case or something in the front drivetrain. Also when i take it out or 4high it seems to stick in 4x4 even though the shifter is in 2. I also hear some winding in the transmission after that along with a bit of vibration. I did over heat my transmission once before, but didnt blow it(yet) and checked the fluid levels. dang i hate my automatic! please anyone that might have an understanding of this your input would be a blessing!

Thats to bad u hate your auto, i love mine especially in the rocks..Anyway, if you have a boddy lift it will cause your transfercase linkage to bind up. The whinning sound might be a bearing in the case. P.S. buy a transmission cooler, there cheap....

Sounds like either the Tcase or the front diff, I doubt the transmission has anything to do with it. It should be pretty easy to isolate the noise to one of those two areas.

Yep, and a shift kit too.
