Your mom is such a Redneck, she cut down her Christmas tree with a trade day Rambo knife, hung ornaments with the hooks, strung Jiffy Pop with the fishing line and lit a fart with the match.

Wow is this country screwed up. Two years ago I paid off old college debts, which i owed, but wasn't able to take care of until then. Well, only in the U.S. are we punished for trying to do right. They extended the late accounts on my reports for an extra 7 years from the pay off dates. Now my credit has dipped. I was actually told the statute of limitations had expired and I couldn't have been touched. They would have been removed from my credit and my score would have increased, as long as i didn't acknowledge the credit or make a payment. How screwed up is this country? No wonder why som many people run to bankruptcy so quick. Its easier, do 10 years and start all over. Looks like doing right wasn't really doing right in their eyes. UUUUGGGGHHHHH! Another 5 years of bad credit. But boy did i learn a lesson.

what would you do different today?

What would i do different? I would not have accepted all the credit cards I goit while in college and working part time. My parents fell through on helping me to pay rent and bills, so I had to live off them. I would have dropped down to part time school and worked full time. Lessons learned. I know my daughter isn't going to be allowed to get a credit card. They are really evil. The saddest part is i joined a credit consolidation LAW FIRM back in my senior year of college and it was supposed to help pay them off at a monthly i could afford. Now i am involved in a class action law suit against the company that the feds found embezzeling millions from their clients and only a few of the crediotrs I had were paid off. Can't trust a lot of these companies I found out. This has been the credit lesson from hell. Wish my parents had taught me about finances. Instead I found out the really hard way.

I truly feel for you here. My gf spent 4 years building her credit up from credit card debt she got after high school. Last year, she decided to use her tax return to pay off her final CC debt and end the credit card nightmare for good. Lesson learned, right? They reported the late payment to the credit agencies (even after part of the agreement was that they wouldn't). So, her credit score went down. She was told by the credit agency that she should have denied the debt was hers and kept the payment. The "Big 3" concept of credit agencies is completely bunk. If there is a "statute of limitations," why do the credit agencies accept notifications past the date? Better yet, Credit Cards are how so many people get the debt, but the quickest way to build credit is by paying your credit card bills. It's truly one of the dumbest systems I've ever seen.

Nope, Red is a new member from Kansas...in fact, scary as it may seem, he is actually from my hometown! No Hope isn't my hometown technically, I've just lived here since I was 4 years old. Prior to that I lived in Alta Vista, KS. Me and Red have been chatting through PM's about the old stomping grounds for a few days....kinda cool, really. 8)
