steering help?

I have recently swapped the stock front end of my 79 CJ 7 for a dana 44 off of a 78 International Scout. I did not shorten the length of the dana44, just moved the hangers. I am trying to use the cj's stock steering box but am not sure how to hook it all up. How have others done this in the past, is there a drag link that will work for this application, or does anyone have any ideas on this. It is spring over axle, i did use the stock cj springs. All help is appreciated. thanks

You can use the Scout steering linkage, or any other linkage with the correct length and TRE's. Important thing to address is pitman arm length as the Scout's steering arms are a different length than the CJ's. Pretty sure the Scout steering arms are longer so you will need a longer pitman arm in order to have a similar turning radius as stock.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are TREs. I no longer have the scout or scout steering parts. Would it be wise to buy a new scout drag link and use it? When you say longer pitman arm, thats not a drop arm right, just longer overall?

TRE=TieRod End.

No, not a drop pitman arm, but a longer arm hole to hole. Arms from a Wagoneer (SJ) will usually work.

Welcome to Parts Mike Online! offers great heavy steering linkage, call Mike and tell him what you're using. Check out his tech section with the specs on the TRE's, you want to stay with the smaller diameter taper on the TRE's.
