Steering fluid leaking

Unfortunately, the YJ that I have for sale just started a sporatic leak up in the sterring box/pump. I can't tell exactly where it is coming from. This is the first problem I've had in the 2 years of owning it, so i'm a little p***** off. To save me the trouble of tearing in to it, does anyone have or had a similar problem and a fix for it? What ever it needs, it will be all AGR products. I want the next owner of this jeep to have a reliable jeep...
thanks.

I have the same problem with my 89 YJ. In fact this is the 2nd time I've had it. The first time, I replaced the P/S pump. Several months later, it was leaking again. So I went to the Auto parts store and replaced the fluid with some P/S fluid that has "Stop Leak" in it. It seemed to help slow the leak to about a drop per day. That's better than pulling the pump off. You have to use a pulley-puller to get it off, and that can be time consuming.

Thanks for the reply, I think I am going to replace the pump with an AGR pump and pray that works. I'm just going to have 4wheelparts to it for me too, I way to busy to mess with it myself.

That's the problem with anything hydraulic...eventually it's going to leak. There is no way around it. I would clean it off and see where the leak is before you pony up for that high dollar AGR. It could be as simple as a hole in your hose. If so, you'll have the same problem when you put the AGR on.
PS pumps are cheap and some of your discount stores like Autozone will swap the pulley for you if you ask.

right on, I'm taking it tomorrow to my long time friend and mechanic... I'm sure he'll find the leak. The reason I dont think it's the hose is bc I see it dripping off the pitman arm... but i'm definately going to get it fixed.

It's dripping off the pitman arm because it's probably leaking down on to it from the PS pump.

Or leaking form the bottom seal on the steering box. Either way it's worth investigating before you throw money at an AGR pump. I don't thinnk the AGR's are worth the money anyway.
