power steering location help

I have a 1974 cj5 with an amc 360. when I had the 304 in I did not have a problem with the stock location of the steering pump. now that I have droped the amc 360 in (with the amc 360 mechanical fuel pump) the 360 fuel pump is positioned upward where as the 304 went down. so the fuel pump is in the way of the power steering bracket.

Anybody know how I can fix this problem? I know I could get a eletric fuel pump but thats a little too expensive. I wanna try to keep as cheap as possible.

Just reuse the 304 pump. It should bolt right on since the 304 and 360 is the same block, just different in bore and stroke.

304 fuel pump, obtain the 360 power steering pump brackets you can still buy those new, or make your own! Good luck to you!

idk if I still have the old 304 pump, i think i sold it along with the engine. I might just have to bite the bullet and get an electric pump. :piratenanner: there goes food for 3 weeks lol jk

You can get a decent electric fuel pump from Napa for around 30 smacks and last you quite awhile. You can use the current manual fuel pump to make a template for a cover on the fuel pump mounting hole on the block. I used a 1/4 in steel plate.

u can still buy the mecaniccal fuel pump for the 304 from a auto parts store allso

Well that would be pointless. If I'm going to spend money on a new pump then I am going to get an electric pump not mechanical. Talk about money down the drain.
