well he has been talking he wants ta put 37's on it eventually so the lower gears would be better cuz then when u go to the 37's u wont have ta regear again
4.88s with a 4 banger, 4.56s with the 6. Find a driveline shop or offroad shop and ask them about setting up gears. It's not something you just buy the parts and do. You need special tools and knowledge to set them up or else they won't work. Plan on a grand plus for the parts and install.
My grandpa has experience building cars and planes from sheet metal, he has every tool imaginable, is it something you HAVE to have done at the shop or is it doable if you have an experienced mechanic?
Unless he has set up gears he doesn't have the special tools or at least not all of them. We are talking thousandths of an inch and like I said if it ain't right you just wasted a couple hundred bucks on just the gears.
ok i miss understood i thaought u where going biugger tiers eventually my bad i know when i went to 35's then i wanted 36 now i have 38's and now i kinda want to go bigger thinking 44's now i wish i would have went to a dana 60 rt away and built them instead of building my amc 20 and the dana 30 its money i could have used in the 60's but for now i will run these axles till i break them then i will do the 60's and put in more lift guess what i was trying to get at is if u think u r ever going to want ta go bigger tires build what ya think u will need in the future but yet run your 33's and regear the axles u choose to what u need now i learned that i should have done a little more planing ahead for future builds instead of the rt now thing
I just want 33's, if I bought them and mounted them would it be necessary to do the gear change right away? Or could I get away for a little while without it?
u will be lacking power all the time and it will be harder on your motor trans and clutch and if u have a 5 speed u will be lucky if u can use 5th gear
