New Jeep

Well, new to me at least ;) It's a 97 Jeep Wrangler (TJ if I'm not mistaken?). I'm looking for something to put a reciever hitch on the bumper so I can tow a trailer. Also a winch, not high powered, just 3000lbs or so. Could be less. Also a new radio, needs to have a detachable faceplate and I need to be able to plug in my Ipod or Iphone for music. Do you guys know any sites? Or if you could post some links. I am only 16 but already love my Jeep! However, being 16, price is an issue!

Thanks,

Also a new radio, needs to have a detachable faceplate and I need to be able to plug in my Ipod or Iphone for music. Know of any good speakers? Audio is important. Do you guys know any sites? I'm kinda brainstorming. Or if you could post some links. I am only 16 but already love my Jeep! However, being 16, price is an issue!

I've got a used Curt Hitches class 3, 2" receiver you can have. You'd just need new mounting hardware and to pay for the shipping, unless you're somewhere around MN. Its yours if you want it.

Wow! That's really generous of you, I'm in Texas, so I'll look into shipping and everything. I hope that works out, it'd be alot of help!

JFYI, if you are getting a winch, it should be at least an 8,000# one (at least if you expect to pull yourself out of a sticky situaton!)

I dont know if it is still like this, but www.winchdepot.com was the cheapest price (same place as www.4wd.com or www.4wheelparts.com but with different price; you can also ship to the closest 4Wheel Parts store for free shipping). If you are looking for a cheap winch, that will rarely get used, I would look into the Smitty Built 8000XRC. If you want something a bit more rugged, you can look into a Warn (most expensive), or a Superwinch (still great quality, but less $$$ than Warn).

Not a problem. We've all been there, just trying to help out a new jeeper. The shipping zip code would be 56021.

Do you like to ship with UPS, FedEx, or just regular mail? Do you know the approximate weight? This is a huge help, thank you so much.

I got a JVC head unit from amazon with an aux hook-up for like $70. With the mounting kit and wiring harness from Best Buy, total cost was like $110. Stereo install on a TJ is pretty easy. Might need an antenna wire extension, too. I don't really remember.

Dimensions are as follows: 42"x12"x5", I'd assume it will be a little bigger when boxed. It weights around 26lbs. As far as shipping, you're paying so what ever works. I know UPS and the Postal service are in town. Fed Ex would be a little drive.

Wow this site is full of helpful people, glad I came here first! I'm looking through all the websites, will update when I make a decision!

It looks like shipping would be around $30, what would be the best way to contact you?

I have to agree with Jfrabat here, you don’t want to go too skimpy on your winch load/line pull rating. Remember that the rating is factored usng the first layer of line on the drum/spool and in reality you may have 3 or 4 layers of line on the drum/spool so if you don’t have a bunch of the line off of the drum/spool when you start your pull you will have a reduced load/line pull capacity due to the larger diameter of the drum/spool caused by the extra layers of line. Think of it in relation to your ten speed bike. When the chain is on the smaller of the two front drive gears it is easier to peddle than when on the larger one.

I wouldn’t go below #8000. Yes you can use a pulley system to reduce the load or pull out a bunch of extra line and tie off to the last tree rather than the best one but when you are stuck why mess around and hope you can get the job done; the winch is your life line, go big!

Thanks guys, I'll look around before I make any choices, heading to grandpa's house over spring break, he's the family auto mechanic :D
