New jeep? questions...

Ok, so I'm sitting here at home about ready to hop in the shower and go look at a Jeep I saw on John R. Road. Now, I don't need another Jeep. The driveway holds 4 cars. We have 4 cars. I have a Jeep. Kyle has a Jeep. I don't need the insurance on another Jeep... But it's a YJ, and there is NO RUST on it... I don't know what engine, what trans, haven't looked at it close up, but it's a YJ for sale in good condition a mile from my house...

So, here's the question...

Basic coverage, PLPD on a YJ, I'm 22, with a clean driving record. We're with AAA... Can anyone give me a rough range here for insuring a YJ... Just a ballpark figure what I might be looking at...

I doubt I'll be getting it... It'll cost too much, or my brother and I won't have the cash, or common sense will prevail... But then again, it was less than 24 hours between when I saw a Grand Wagoneer on John R. Road, and it was in our driveway as my brother's new ride...

Aaarrgh, darn that Jeep bug!

Collision and full coverage? Or just liability.

If it's just a toy, you could do liability only. Just a thought.

Call Progressive, they'll give you a quote, and the quotes of competitive insurance companies for free. Insurance is realative to your record and where you live. Even someone ballpark's it, it won't be very accurate.

I'd call Progressive...it only takes a few minutes.

Good to know, will probably do that... It's a stick, so I'd have to brush up on my manual driving, when I called, there was no answer... Here in Michigan, we have to have no fault PLPD at bare minimum, I HATE the no fault thing, someone hits you, and your rates go up if you make a claim to get your vehicle fixed... :x

How old is it? Some states allow older vehicles to be tagged and insured on a limited basis at a discounted rate (antique or classic tags). SOme states consider 15 years a classic and 25 an antique so a 1991 or older may qualify. Look into it ;)

Wish I could help ya, but I can't even remember when I was 22, much less what I paid for insurance back then. I think for a Toyota 4x4 it was almost $3600 a year full coverage with a clean record.

My '94 YJ is a couple hundred a year cheaper than my '99 Camry was, which surprised me. I figured the SUV angle would kill my insurance rates, but it was actually cheaper because it was "safer" to drive on Kansas roads!!!

4 banger, 115,000 miles, everything works, new brakes... Needs a new top, softtop is in terrible shape...

3 grand... I just don't have that kind of cash right now, especially with it needing a new top... :(

Oh, come on, Sean!! You've got all summer to save for a new top!!! Buy it....buy it....buy it...buy it....buy it...buy it....buy it...buy it....buy it...buy it....buy it...:D

Yea, you crazy xj people who think you need a top :) You dont need no stinkin' top!

Nathan

And since when am I sitting upon THAT kind of money? :D

but it's SOOOOOO TEMPTING still... hmm... After all, I'm not workin 80 hours/week for nothing...

I wouldn't buy it unless it came from a dry climate or the southeast (no corrosion). I only pay $20 a month to carry my YJ under my policy. I only have liability and I don't drive it everyday. I am over 25 and married so that will make a huge difference as well. If u need a top, I would factor that in the price...they are not cheap and that money for a top would go better towards some nice mods. 3k for a YJ is pretty good.....think about it.

when i had my XJ and my mercury sable insured at the same time, it only cost me like $1500 per year (whereas with only 1 of the vehicles it was $1200).

they don't charge that much for a 2nd vehicle because you obviously can't crash both at once.

No rust, not even the usual windshield frame rot. In Michigan, that's the first thing I look for. Engine starts and idles great, it's in really great shape...

Moot point now, due to a terrible decision on my part, I now have to be on standby to take over a car payment should it come to that... :(

I'm in the market for a inexpensive Jeep and also live in the area. If your not going to be able to pick up the other one let me know where it is so I can check it out. I just looked at an 87cj7 yesterday... runs good but there is a lot of rust. I'm going back tonight w/ someone to look again and see if the frame can be salvaged or if it's shot.

i thought the 87 models were YJ's...???

John R. Road, north of Parker Avenue, in the parking lot of the Madison Medical Arts Centre. Jeep belongs to Dr. Hasbany, and there's no chance I can possibly afford it now...

Where in the area are you at? Welcome to Jeepz, hope to see you 'round sometime...
