Need some knowledge

So my Jeep was drivable untill a few days ago. I parked it in my driveway and it hasent moved since. I got in started it up and everytime i put it in gear it makes a terrible grinding noise but doesent move anywhere in any gear. Also my rear driveline dosen't move when in gear but if i jack up the rear and spin the tires by hand it moves alittle any suggestions?:???:

Looking from the bottom of the trans. bell housing, look for an acces plate, remove it.. use a tool that you can use to spin the torque converter or at least try to move it. watch the flywheel at the same time to see if the Torque converter is still attached to the flywheel with the bolts. if the torque converter turns with the flywheel then the issue will be further in the trans...possibly a sheared mainshaft.

Thank you i'll try that. Do you think it could possibly be some thing with the rearend? Because when your transmission goes out normally it starts a gear at a time not all of them going out at once right?

You are correct to a certain point. An Auto trans. will normally always start engagement on the first Gear and will not shift to any higher gears without the variables needed like veh. speed ,line pressure and throttle input.. the only time a transmission will start on a second or third gear is if the transmission module has detected a fault or failure within the Transmission or Module itself and in this case, the TCM will go in a Limp in Mode.. your case is a Mechanical failure. i failed to mention that if your Jeep is a 4WD , the problem could also exist in the Transfer case, possibly a Gear or chain that's skipping.. Try to raise the wheels off the ground and make the noise occur and isolate the area where its coming from, this will give us a better idea of whats going on.
