No speedo yet and the sun is hiding the silver guages.

Yes it is aluminum and I bought aftermarket gauges. Temp, volts, oil pres gauge, I need speedo and gas gauge still.

Are you gonna use a digital speedo? How much was that slab of aluminum? Where did u find the the thing around the column?

I think the sheet of aluminum was $70-$80. I had to cut it to fit and drill my gauge holes. No Im not going to use a digital speedo, at this time the speedo is a issue for me because I have a muncie M21 car trans and the previous owner brazed or sodered where the speedo cable go,s closed and I can not get the stuff out of there. The chrome looking thing around the column is actually plastic and I got it out of quadra tech catalog, It didnt cost much, I think around $20 if that.

Here's what i built for mine.

Sorry, no. I hand rolled all the sheet metal with an English wheel the did the cuts with a die grinder cutting wheel. I built the entire dash.

Mikey, Wlecome back, long time no type!

I am in the process of taking out my stock YJ dash and replacing it with a simple sheet of aluminum. for the ignition I am using a 12 volt guy switch pannel, I have a tach, water, oil, and volt gauges, relocatged factory heat control and thats all. I have a nice spot to put a lowrance system if I want, but my new goal is to reduce as much weight from my jeep as possible.

Long time indeed my o'l friend. I've just been in and out lurking and looking at different post waiting to slam that ban hammer, lol. Looks like Terry has got this site pretty well setup like a well oiled machine. :) ... That is going to be an awesome project you got going on. I've been looking at different YJ's here and imagining what I can do for a dash build and how it would be more practical for the driver to readily see all the gauges instead of looking across the dash. IMO , if you don't have A/C , the aftermarket heater units from quadratech or 4wd hardware is more efficient for heating and space. Those factory HVAC housing takes a lot of space under the dash. Take some pics when you get a chance please. And don't forget, aluminum might not get you the sufficient ground you need for some gauges so run a main ground strap from the body to wherever the gauges needs it.

Ditto on factory HVAC, since I am just finishing up SAS and linking the front of my GMC and I am going forward with 4 linking the front of my YJ, I am on a lean budget for the Jeep Diet. I eventually go with a mohave heater, couple of my chums have them and they crank and they take up next to no space under the dash..

I'm glad to hear about the Mohave heater I left hvac case out of my cj when rebuilding and looped the heater hose and was gonna use Mohave

Yup, the Mohave heaters are very efficient. Once the engine reaches its normal operating temperature, I turn the blower down to low, otherwise it's too hot.
