Leaks, something we're all familiar with

So I'm at that point of tracking down all my oil leaks and so far have done the the valve cover as well as the oil filter adapter gaskets. My oil pressure sending unit seems fine although there looks to be a fair bit of oil coming from the sensor next to it. Wondering what this guy is? A bit of google searching only returns pressure sending units and the Hayes manual doesn't seem to note it.

Yeah, there's just a bit of oil baked on :)

There is ( or should be ) a gasket under the TPS. Make sure not to change the position of the TPS when you remove it.

If you decide to remove it to replace the gasket/ seal, remove the 2 small bolts on the sensor first to expose the tone ring inside.. You can do one of the following.; turn the crank shaft until you get the timing at top dead center with the #1 cylinder at the compression stroke. The tone ring on the crankshaft sensor housing has a small hole that should line up with a hole on the sensor housing. This is your reference guide. Install a pin or a hex wrench that fits the hole to keep it in place. Before you pull or move the housing, clean around the area where you can mark the housing and the engine block with a white paint line across the two surface as reference during assembly. When your ready to pull the unit out, it will twist on the same direction as the cam shaft gear while pulling straight up. Replace the seal then reinstall the sensor housing with the prior marks lined up accordingly..
The other method is; instead of using thenTDC method, you can remove the sensor then mark the current position of the tone ring straight to the housing, then mark the base of the housing to the engine block and proceed with the removal..

Thanks all,

Yep, it's a 2000 xj. I'll get my profile updated :)

SteelHeadz, Thanks for the detailed explanation. I did a bit of searching at Kragen/Autozone and it doesn't seem as though the gasket/seal can be bought separately, is that available anywhere without purchasing the entire sensor?

Yes Sir granted that they can find it in their application catalog.. If not a dealer should be able to order you one.
