i have a 97 jeep wrangler and lately its been giving me some promblems, one, the idle is of. as soon as i start it it revs to 21000 give or take and it stays there,,, today i turned it off and it didnt want to turn on again so i gave the starter some hits and it worked and also the revs went down to normal for a while and the up again,, so ive been thinking it might be the starter but i am not shure if a bad starter can make the jeep over accelerate... the other probmlem ive been having is that for a month or so its been making a rattling noise but ive chacked for any lossen bolts or stuff like that and havent found any thing besides a messed up u joint which i replaced but still it did not fix the problem... so if you have any suggestions or ideas please help...

The idle issue could be isolated in the Throttle body . Possibly an IAC getting stuck or a TPS fault and or a dirty t. body.. Another cause for a high idle could be a vacuum leak in the manifold area or a large vaccum supply line loose. For the rattle, with the engine off, use a rubber mallet and tap on some of the under carriage components and see if you can duplicate the rattle. Don't forget to check the catalytic converter, they rattle when the honeycomb inside breaks loose off the casing.

well i took off the throttle body and cleaned it today, plus a sensor looking thing which i think is the IAC, but nothing, it still keeps on accelerating too much, plus i forgot to post it last time but it also make like a whistleing, whinning sound, that comes from the throttle body or somewhere close, and it changes when i move the intake, like if it was sucking to much air.

ok so the MAP sensor is the one in the drivers side of the tb right??? and how can i clean it??? i was also reading that it could be the O2 sensor, what do you guys think???

Move the intake?, you shouldn't be able to move the intake at all. The whistle noise could very well be the vacuum leak your looking for. Check the vac. lines attached to the intake, if all that checks good, i would check the gasket.

ok i took it to a neighbor who is a mechanic, and at first he thought it was the TPS or a vac line but after a while he found out that it was one of the injectors. i was just wondering if by any chance an injector from a 97 dodge neon 2.0l 4 cyl would fit... also one other thing off of the topic,,, about how much would it cost to replace the 4 cyl enginge with an 8 cyl???

I highly doubt the neon injector would fit. Compare p/n's though to be sure.

As far as cost on a v-8...totally depends 100% on what your fabrication and mechanical skills are. could be a few hundred if you get a good deal on the motor/transmission and can do everything yourself (welding, etc)...up to thousands and thousands of $$$. Really no way to say for sure, for you.

just today i trien to play mechanic and took of the fuel injectors. well i took of the fuel rail with the injectors attached to it. once off i had the great idea of turning on the key to see if the injectors would spray gas while they were off. so i did but i dindt even connect the harness on the injectors, i turn the key and it was ok but as soon as i tried to start it i heard a click sound and lost total power. so i put everything back together and checked the relays, and apparently the auto shutdown relay was the problem, so i switched the horn relay and the asd relay and turned the key on and had power again, but once again just as i tried to start it the asd relay messed up again. does anybody have an idea of what could be wrong???

well thats what they told me but the truth i dont think so!!! i havent fixed it yet,,, plus like a week ago the water pump broke down too so im just going to have to keep it like that for a while until i get money to fix it... i was also thinking of an engine swap!!!
