First Questions

Ok,I was able to find some answers to a couple questions from some past posts,and like I said in the 'New members" forum,I got a long list.But I'll start out with a couple things I'm doing first.

What I got: 98 Wrangler Sport,4.0,5 spd.

1.) I need to pull the dash out to work on the gauge cluster ( common problem I'm reading about are the gauges that stop working,and the"airbag"/"check engine"/ shift indicator coming on again off again) Meantime slapping the top of the dash works.
I'll use contact cleaner and dielectric grease also check the grounds.)Anything I'm missing?

2.) While it's apart,the Heater/AC fan control turns to either High or Off nothing in between.So before I get a replacement switch,will a later model Heater /AC control unit ,the type with the rotary knobs work with my existing wiring and also fit in the existing dash bezel? ( the one that's in there has the slider type controls.)

3.) When replacing the starter motor,the lower mounting bolt head snapped off leaving the threaded part of the bolt sticking out.( It's really fused in there)
So until I find the best way to deal with this, I've been soaking the threads with PB Blaster.
I don't own a torch...any suggestions?

Thanks & sorry about my long first post.

Question #1 answer; Use a magnifying glass if possible to really see which terminals has any corrosions on them if any. If the cleaning doesn't do the trick, you can replace the instrument cluster connectors.

Question #2 answer;

Before you replace that HVAC control head, verify that the Blower resistor block is not the one at fault which i think IS due to the fact that you have a functioning blower on high. The blower resistor should have a different resistance on each setting on the output going to the blower motor. Use a either a test lamp or a multimeter to test.

Question #3 answer;

If there's enough bolt sticking out to be able to grab it with a vice grip, with your PB blaster and a gentle tap on the bolt might do the trick. The worst case scenario is that you will need to drill it out and use a bit called easy out.

Thanks for the detailed reply.This place will be one of my lifelines.This Jeep is my one & only,I wrench after work then drive it the next day.(toolbox,flashlight & a Haynes Manual in the back seat!)

1.) If the cleaning doesn't do it,I have a copy of a service manual for the gauge cluster connector.

2.) I have both a cheap test lamp & a decent multimeter, but zero experience with this type thing,but I'm willing to learn.
I'll start to search the web,does anyone have any place they can point me to?

3.) Yeah, about 2" of bolt sticking out.
Plan-A: Gentle tap & Vise grips.
Plan-B: Drill & Extract
Plan-C: Tap new threads
Plan-D: Harsh Language :D
