me again, figured out what was happening. My battery won't recharge when i jump the Jeep. My horn keeps shorting and working again. If i turn on any lights (headlights, reverse lights, etc..) all my dash instruments (oil pressure, voltage meter, etc..) cut off and flat out. they jump back up when i turn OFF whatever light i had turned on. likewise with trying to honk the horn. It will shut off my headlights when i try and honk it, and it doesn't honk. It clicks and cuts off my lights untill i release it. Any ideas???? please help!

I would get it to an electrical shop. Or get out there with you multimeter and a manual for you wiring. That stuff sux... Good luck. Sounds like its under you dash though. Thats where I would start ;-) [addsig]

Some help may be found at
http://applications.edmunds.com/ownership/?tid=edmunds.g.editorial.header.ownership.5.*

Edmunds.com under maint. gives recalls and TSBs for free.
Our benevolent Federal gov. charges for this at the NHTSA.

Many jeep models are prone to a simply ground shanking loose.
The Factory fix "remove screw and ground" redrill next to old hole, reinsert screw in new hole." and other pearls of wisdom are available. HA. Well at least it will help with the
electrical detective work in front of you.

I now always check for recalls and TSBs before I start digging around blind.

Find out if I have a common problem, what the factory fix might be, and then come to the vault of wisdom AKA JEEPZ.COM, and find what you collection of true Jeepers have done to correct the problem.

Sorry I can't help more speifically, But I do hope this may be one more tool for you to use.

Good Luck.[addsig]

went to that site. Didn't have anything for a '79 CJ, thanks though! guess i'll start searching for the elusive under dash short! had one other qiukc question though. I have a couple of dash lights out on my speedometer (high beam indicator, left turn) Can i replace those myself? I was trying to detach them from the rear of the dash, but they seem mounted in place. am i going to have to replace the whole speedometer?? thanks again all! you guys have definately helped to keep me somewhat sane!
