Driveline issues.. I think..

Thaks for reading, I just picked up a '99 Grand Cherokee Limited, and it has some issues that have me a little stumped. Its a one owner and it just turned 100k, V8, auto, NP247j transfer case.
Here are the problems, at low speeds making tight turns in both directions it makes a clunking sound, when breaking somewhat hard it sounds like something is still spinning in the transfer case(maybe transmission, but you can feel it on the transfer case gear selecter), and finally on the highway 55mph+ when when accelerating there is a clunking sound that you can feel in the steering wheel, and the clumking increases with engine speed.
Ive done some reading and i feel the viscous coupler in the transfer case could be an issue, as it seems somewhat common for the mileage. I just done want to throw parts at this truck. Does anyone have any input???? :???: Thanks!

I'd check the front axle U joints before anything else, most of what you describe sounds like U-joints.
Except maybe the braking and spinning in the transfer. Both of my XJ's make odd (but different) sounds and have been for the last 100,000 miles or so. LOL
When was the last time you looked at the front brake pads?

Could be the u-joints like chuck said, and I know that front brakes can make a clunking sound at times, especially under hard braking. Also check your suspension, could be your shocks bottoming out when you take corners or take off and brake hard.

The brakes are all new, new tires, tight front end, and all of the u-joints/CVjoints appear to be in decent shape. I was doing some tight turns in a parking lot the other day, and opened my door to listen, and it really sounds like the low speed turning clunking is coming from the center of the vehicle. I guess it could be a joint in the front shaft, but i was told that just about every one of these jeeps with the 247 transfer case needs the viscous coupler replaced between 60 and 100k.
