In the first image there is a vacuum hose that goes to the connection in the second image these items are under the dash on the drivers side. The black connection for the vacuum line is mounted where the brake and clutch pedals are.

What year and model Jeep?

Plug the vacuum line and see what changes. I suspect it controls a damper of some sort or maybe something on tue transmission.

My guess (like above) is a brake light switch

That was my thought when I saw it I think it goes in the hole you see in image 2? I think the guy that had the Jeep before me had it wedged in there somehow because the nut to hold it in is not there. 😒

Not sure about that. That hole would have to line up with a tab on your brake pedal. In addition mine, ‘79 cj7 actually threads into the hole with the nut used to lock it in.

The plunger switch in the orginal post is not the brake light switch this is the brake light switch and it is in place. I took out the switch and took these images I cannot tell what the numbers are to cross reference it.

Does your cruise control have its own switch at the pedal?
The switch is on the turn signal stalk but I thought this could be what disconnects it when you step on the brake or gas that this is for the gas but I am unable to confirm this?

it looks like one that does disconnect when you step on the brake. but thats on the gas?

the only thing that is usually on the gas pedal would be a full throttle switch that cuts power to the ac clutch so you can actually accelerate fully when flooring hte gas pedal. but those are normally controlled through the throttle position switch and not on the pedal

I do not know where it goes it was hanging under the dash on the wires like in the first image on the original post. My Jeep does have A/C and that was my first thought but like you I know that switch is usually on the throttle linkage at the carb or FI. My other thought is as spoken about here is this is what disconnects the cruise control when you step on the brake. I have no way of checking either threoy because the A/C does not work and I had to replace the speedo cable and could not find the two piece so bought the no cruise single piece cable so I had a functioning speedometer.

I used a multi-meter the switch is still good I have continuity when the plunger is depressed so I am almost certain that this is disconnect for the cruise control.
