Block problems.

The motor mount bolts on my 2000 tj 4.0 broke off in the block. The only thing holding the motor in is the exhaust manifold is resting on the frame motor mount. I don't know if they were loose when I purchased the jeep, or just bad luck. The problem is the bottom left bolt hole is broken off. There is no place to put the bolt. There is a few threads left even with the rest of the block. Is there anything I can do other than replace the block? I'm assuming welding anything to the block is out of the question. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had the same thing happen on an XJ. You have to drill a hole in what is left of the bolt in the block and use a back out tool to remove the bolt. They look kind of like a drill bit. You can get them at any auto parts store or Sears. The hole you drill will have to be the right size for the tool.

If you can't do it yourself, get a bid from a shop if you can or the charge can go way up if they have problems.

I used an ease out to get the bolts out. The problem is part of the block is missing where the bottom left bolt hole is. I know that 2 bolts will not hold.

If you know of a welder/ fabricator in your area. There are other bolt holes available close by on that side of the block. You will need to make a template of the 2 existing usable holes and which ever other bolt hole you find close by..Have it cut into a steel plate and use that as your new motor mount bracket..

Sometimes you can plug weld a nut to a flushed off bolt, then wrench it out.

Jack the engine up a little with a floor jack & small square of plywood to prevent oil pan damage.
You might be able to figure a way to chain the engine up off the mounts. pipe across the fenders, overhead rafter or tree.

There is ways to get that bolt out, don't buy a new engine!

I have gotten all the bolts out. The problem is part of the block is missing where one of the new bolts would up.

Mikey, has the right idea. Find another available hole close by and make a sub-bracket to bolt your regular mount onto instead of the busted up hole. There are several ways to mount your engine, You just might have to get a little creative.

This^^^ and there's an old school drag racer's trick if that doesn't work.

You can make some "Elephant Ears", these are big plates that mount either between the engine & transmission or to some of the bolts on the front of the engine Such as the water pump & accessory bracket mounts.

Also, you might be able to find a GOOD welder, who can MIG weld cast steel.

Each pass needs to be seriously peened with a blunt air chisel, before the next one goes in.

He can maybe weld a new mounting boss on the block.
