Another T-case???

I have a t-case out of a TJ for my YJ and I have a question about the output side of it. It is obvisouly(where is spell check when you need it!) different. I know that on my old t-case that if I ran without a rear driveshaft that fluid would become one with the outside world, my question is will this happen with the different style of output on this newer t-case. Also what purpose does the rubber boot serve? Any help would be greatly appreceated. Thanks Evan

the TJ tailshaft is shorter, as well as the housing... the rubber boot is not absolutely needed.. but it is to keep dirt from getting into the slipyoke... though.. if any DOES get in there, it stays

The TJ will keep the fluid in if you remove the driveshaft.

What does the TJ transfercase have where the YJ's 4-port vacuum switch is located? A plug or what?

It actually had a similar conector only it was electric, I pulled it out looked at the two switches next to each other and then put the vacuum switch back in the electric ones place. I guess I will find out if it works when I finally get her all back together.

Does anyone know how the driveshaft is secured to the front output yoke on a TJ transfer case thanks. Evan

The TJ uses a double cardan joint on the transfer case end of the front driveshaft. The bolts go through the back of the yoke and into the double cardan joint's flange. You'll need to reuse the YJ yoke for the YJ front driveshaft to bolt up.

What was the electric switch used for in the TJ transfer case, maybe the 4wd indicator?

The vacuum switch should work fine there, I was just wondering what they did with that hole when they changed over from the YJ to the TJ and kept the NP231 TC. Thanks.

Probably, if you drill the holes out on the yoke.
