84 cj wiring question

hi , new to site and to jeeping. the question i have is there are 2 red wires coming from the coil . one goes to the starting solinoid but where does the other go ? thanks

Tach? Thought it was a purple wire though. Maybe the wire has been replaced or from an aftermarket tach.
Haynes or Chilton manuals have good wire diagrams and are a must for CJ owners.

i have been told it is a noise suppressor ?

there are 2 wires + and - .
the + is where the juice comes from, and the - probably goes back to the ignition module, then to the tach eventually.

Do the two red wires attach to the same terminal? If so, it is possible that the one red wire is a ballast bypass wire from the solenoid so the coil gets the full 12V when cranking, and the other goes to the ignition circuit to provide about 9V in the run position. (Ballast wire brings down the voltage.)

That is right... the tach wire should be green
