Does this sound like its worth swapping my 4.0? I really want a V8 in my jeep and i can get the motor and the computer for really cheap

There is a LOT of work that goes into it ... but I'd go ahead and buy the motor/ECU if I was in your position and I had the money. That way, when you've saved up some cash and you're absolutely ready to do the swap you've already got the two most important components. On the other hand, if your 4.0L is doing fine I really don't see the need to swap unless you want to get into racing or you're building a hardcore rock crawler.

But yes, excluding the motor and including a transmission to mate it with that swap will probably cost you anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000. There will be some fabrication and lots of special-order parts involved, along with lots of headaches to work through (like where the hell to route dual exhaust pipes :D) There is a site dedicated to selling parts and adapters for Jeep engine swaps but I cannot remember the URL off-hand, I'm sure someone else will.

Good luck :D

Oh i know it would be alot of work and yeah the 4.0 is fine, its just i want a v8 and plus the sound and i came across this for $150 , and there something you can buy to make the 5.7 bolt up to the ax15 but i forgot what its called. and i could get the transmission under tahoe its coming out of for around $50

The AX-15 will not be able to handle the torque from the V-8 for very long. Especially running it with 35's. Grab the transmission for 50$ and save yourself the headaches later on.

Would my transfer case bolt up to that transmission? And that transmission is an auto which would be better for me because the 5spd is about to kill me lol

If the Tahoe is a 4WD just get everything Chevy got smart and went to drivers side drop when they changed to IFS to utilize a high pinion design and run the gears how they are supposed to be run instead of running them on their backsides. Why keep running the gears on the backsides when you dont have to. You won't have to mess around with any adapters and I'm fairly sure the Chevy T-case has a fixed yoke design already in place.

No, you will need to grab a GM transfer case while you're at it, like the 231C or 241C.

$200 for a running/rebuildable 5.7 Vortec and a transmission to match is an amazing deal. Do you know specifically which transmission it is? I'd imagine it'll be the TH350, but it's possible it could also be the 700R and that would just be epic.

If it is out of a Tahoe it is either a 4L60E or a 4L80E. An easy way to tell is to look at the vehicles GVWR. the 4L60 is their 4 speed eLectronically controlled automatic for vehicles using a 6000LB. GVWR. (it also happens to be a fully electronically controlled version of the 700R4 and utilizes a square transmission pan) the 4L80E is the 4 speed eLectronically controlled automatic transmission for vehicles with an 8000 pound GVWR. (it is an updated OD electronical version of the TH400 and used the tombstone shaped transmission pan) Out of the 2 the 4L80 is definatley the more sought after of the for obvious reasons.

In the chevy tahoe the transmission is the 4l60e. I am using the same transmission and engine combo out of a 99 tahoe in my cj7 rebuild. If you can't get the wiring harness call howell fuel injection. The computer and harness all plug and play was like 800 bucks. Also advance adapters does make marrying collars to hook up your jeep transfer case to the 4l60e, but it will cost a few hundred bucks.
