YJ front fenders?

I was thinking about removing the tips of my front fenders on my YJ to make it a flattie...the very front pieces that curve down. Just wondering if they can just be unbolted and removed or are they welded on and do they have to be cut off? If they are welded is there a way of removing them so they can easily be reinstalled. The reason I'm asking is because I like the look of them removed but it's illegal here to remove them so if I get pulled over, I might have to reinstall them.

i believe they are welded, not totally sure... but i know that they are one piece on a tj

CUT! CUT! CUT!

No going back after a cut. Unless you rig something up. Probably be better to leave em.

Cut them off. Take your flares of then get a body saw or sawzall after the fender. Use some thick masking tape where you are going to cut, then draw out your lines on the tape. This will keep the blade guard on the saw from beating up your paint job.
Leave about two inches of the turned down part on there so you have an even line back to the side marker light. That will also help maintain the strength of the fender. You can smooth out the cut with a fine grain file and take that sharp edge off. If it is still sharper than you want, get some of that black door molding at the auto parts store.
Then you need to cut the flare. You can use a utility knife to do that. I have used a die grinder but it tends to throw hot plastic all over you.
