XJ to TJ...

SO, my old '84 XJ has seen its final days and Im gonna move on to a brand new TJ... I'd like to put a 2" spacer lift in. My ? is what other mods will have to be done to my new toy to keep her running smoothly when the lift is put in? Or will it be fine with just the lift...? Also, its gonna be daily driver but I LOVE the look of the BFG MT tires so I'm thinking of going w/31's or 32's. Any suggestions? How will they effect my speedometer and driving on the highway? Should I not go with MT's if Im not gonna see toooo much mud? Alllll opinions will be helpful! THANKS

If you get bigger tires your speedometer will be slightly off . . . . i believe theres a way to adjust it, but it wont be off by much so i wouldnt worry about it. If its gonna be a street driver, i would get a little less meaty tires and something more practical to its use. If your going offroading in the thing then go for the MT's. Just my opinion on the tires . . .

It depends on the TJ you get. If it is a bottom of the barrell TJ SE with 215-75-15 tires, you might need more lift to clear those tires. If you have a sport or sahara with the 30 inch wheel package, if should not be a problem. I am a YJ owner and have never performed just a coil spacer lift so I am unsure of what esle has to be done. If on a budget, You might want to consider adding a 1 inch body lift to help make sure your tires don't rub!

As for the speedo, It will be off a bit, and for warrenty sake you will have to correct it. Superlift makes a plug-in adjuster tho change the speedo, but I have never seen on used to I have no clue. The other way is to know your tire size and gear ratio, head to the stealership and get a new speedo gear that will be put into the output shaft of the Tcase.

TJs will fit 31s without any lift. You can get 32s underit but any flex and you are rubbing. with a 2" you will easily clear 32s go for it. If you want an even cheaper Lift let me know ;) I have been piecing mine together and it doesn't include new shocks.

Muffler problems

Definatley go with MT. I have some 33 pro comp mt on my TJ and i have gona mudding maybe three times. Most of my wheeling is done on rocks and my mud tires have provided more traction in all of the elements weather it be rain, snow, mud, or rock. Definatley outperforms the AT!

Welcome to the wrangler side of the world you can put on a complete BB in less than 1hr 30 min....easy to do ...:)

I installed a 2" coil spacer lift with shocks on a buddy's TJ, about an hour for each axle. No other mods needed, it's just recommended to get an alignment afterwards.

Sway bar disconnects on the front will be another good option to go along with the MT tires to improve offroad capability.
