XJ lift options

I'm looking (just looking  ) at some of the "budget" style lifts for my XJ with the thought of being able to run a 30 or 31" tire. All the 1 3/4-2" spacer style kits use coil spacers front but the rear has a few options. There are AAL, shackles, and blocks (stock springs are SOA). On a 2" kit with coil spacers up front, Would there be any disadvantage to using a 2" lift block as opposed to an AAL or shackle setup? I'm thinking it would be the best option over an AAL (rougher ride) or shackles (changes the axle angle and hangs lower in back). I got a price for a RE kit that has 2" spacers in front, 2" blocks in back and Doesch 3000's for about $211.45 to the door. The kit with the AAL is roughly the same $$$.
I see this 2" height advertised to clear 31's on a few places, but most Manufacturors recommend a 30". Think 31's would be too big for 2" of lift on an XJ???

the XJ has smaller wheel wells which is why they recommend 30's... as for blocks vxs add a leaf... i'd do the addaleaf... gains you a little more articulation than blocks and is more stable down the highway (shorter u-bolts) BTW: i'm just about to install one of the RE kits very soon on a 99 XJ.

TC, you should get a YJ. white with black doors, I know some guy who is selling his, I will call him and see if he still has it. I think he is in your neighborhood.

hehe

Sorry I could not resist. I have heard good things about Rusty's But I have no experience. that is the best I can do!

That was a deep, hard slice into my soul. lol.

I will get a YJ. No question, but I'm waiting until I'm in PA with a garage and some space to breathe.

Hey greywolf, I was thinking the AAL would stiffen the spring making it flex less. Not so?

i dont think so.. i'll be installing a set in about 2 weeks on a 99 XJ.. It might stiffen it up a little bit, but not as much as you would think... I've done addaleafs in vehicles before and it didnt make much difference in the ride.

another point... you definitely need longer shocks, contrary to what one web site says.. the stick shocks are about 1" shorter than the unloaded rear leafs.. we just raplacet the rear leafs onthe XJ we're gonna lift (they were sagging). when we had it off the wheels, we unhooked the factory shocks, the axle dropped another inch... so longer shocks are a must if you lift..

Boy that plan changed dramatically! That's pretty funny. As mentioned in a Gen. forum post, I ordered a 4 1/2" full spring pack lift yesterday.

MINGEZ:
I was checking out the pix on yer site. You have 33's on a 4 1/2" lift? By the looks of those pix, if that is correct and I get the same amount of lift on mine I may not have to trim if I keep 'em under the Jeep (33x10.50x15 on stock wheels)! I think that is the route I will probably go. In the BFG MT prolly. I guess I'll have to adjust the steering stops like I did on my YJ though.

But I think you will still have to trim for the trail. Daily driving maybe not. Flex, is another issue, I rub a little. Time for the 5.5" conversion.
