WRANGLER X or SE?

Hi everybody! Im new to the board and looking for some answers about buying a new TJ... I'll be purchasing one in about 3 months and I'd like some opinions about which model to go after; the X or the SE? This vehicle will be an everyday driver but I'd like to give it a rugged look and be capable to go off road if necessary, although those times may be few and far between. I like the look of the BFG Mud Terrain tires plus I'd like to add a little lift (2 inches?) which is the best lift to go after and what size tires can I put on the wrangler without having to worry about messing with the gears etc or losing power? I dont think I'd want to go larger than 31"... also will the Canyon Wheels fit on the X or SE? I see they are only offered on the SPORT. Any help would be greatly appreciated! THANKS![/list]

They will fit and if you are buying a new jeep I would go with a 2" Budget Boost and save your warranty .....and it will let yo fit 31's I have some canyon wheels if you wanna buy them...:)

Tires and rims forsale

The X has a 6cyl,with 190 hp and 235 pounds feet of torque. The SE has a 4cyl with I think 170 hp,and I am not sure how much torque. If you want more power,go for the X.If you want good fuel economy,go for the SE.And like jhiggins said, try not to void your warranty.

No a coil spacer lift ...Is what we are saying... A suspension lift will void your warranty...:)

I say go with the X. Why you ask?

This is my TJ X Great little ride and just as sporty but it doesn't come with the Dana 44. Out of the box I say it is a great start to off-roading with much room to grow. As I tell all new TJ owners recommended first mods would be JKS Quicker Disconnects (SO many horror stories about swaybar removal after a couple years.) Then Tow hooks if they aren't already on the Jeep to begin with.
You can fit 31's on the TJ with no lift at all. I would reccomend some new rims to allow you to fully turn without rubbing.
Ask your dealer, when you purchase the Jeep, if you can lift it. My dealer said that I could do 2" suspension and 3" body lift without voiding the warranty. You may want to ask the Guy that will have to work on your Jeep if their are any problems.
The 4 banger will have plenty of power, as most around here will say, but ask Tug about the move from 4 to 6 and see what he says. He has driven both in the last few weeks.

Just my .02

Jhiggins My dealer said that coils wouldn't void the warranty, but that is not here nor there. Basically ask your local to see what you can get away with LOL. But really you don't need it for 31's

P.S. here is what 31's look like with Stock Rims and no lift.

AH, I see... this is VERY helpful, thanks! I know roughly zilch about lifts... is the coil spacer lift something they can do for me at the time I buy my Jeep or will I have to get it eslewhere?

L33TJ33P, coil spacers won't but larger coil springs will... This is what Jeep chrysler told me and it took me a while to get to the bottom ...But that was the finnal out come was ...Body lift ok, spacers ok, modify the suspension with larger coils no go...:)

personally I would look at ebay you can find them there. But you don't get new shocks. These aren't needed but if you want more extention then you may want to go to http://www.rubiconexpress.com They have the budget boost there read to go. you would have to do it yourself.

OK well what exactly are the differences between a coil spacer lift, a body lift and a suspension lift?

Ok Body lift just lifts the body, coil spacers change the suspension but with stock springs, suspension you are changing coils', shocks, brake lines, pitman arm ...so forth and so on ...:)

Body lift = Spacers placed between the body and the frame, to give more space between the body and the frame.

Coil Spacer = Spacers that go above the stock coils. These lift the suspension by lengthening the space between the stock spring and the frame.

Suspension lift = Changing out the whole suspension. New coils, sway bar links, and depending on height of lift, pitman arm, brake lines, shocks, linkages, and anything else that might have to be lengthend.

This is for a TJ only. Leaf spring Jeeps have thier own world of lifts altogether.

Hope this answers your question.

Well if you have to get all technical and show me up I see how it is ....:D

It's the first cahnce I got LOL....probably the only...you can explain the long arm, as I'm still trying to get the hang of that one.LOL

Hello and welcome to the board.

I as L33, would suggest the X if you want a bit more style and power. He has a new X and I have a new SE and I love my lil SE but I've noticed my 4banger doesn't quite cut it on occasion while climbing up mountain hills or when trailing behind a pack of 6's on the highway.

My dealer did have SE's in the 6 cyl though, so maybe that would work for you too. If your patient and okay with a 4cyl go with the SE, I have all the features I could ask for in a basic vehicle model and the cost is comfortable too.

Really though, I think either is a great ride that can be driven on and offroad with no trouble at all.

Good luck on your future purchase, stick with Jeep and you can't go wrong either way. :P 8)
