wrangler coolant leak

Want to buy a 94' wrangler from a dealer. Drives nice, but antifreeze running out like a sieve. NOT from radiator, seems to be back on firewall where it passes through to heater. A small amount is leaking from heater itself.

Dealer was sending it to auction, but will sell to me cheap AS IS. 50 miles from my home.
ANy way I can temporarily stop the line from radiator to the heater, so I can get it home ?

Also, any advice for complete fix or probable cause would be appreciated.[addsig]

one quick, temporary fix would be to take a pipe nipple and a couple of clamps to make a loop of the heater hoses. disconnect the hoses where they enter/exit the firewall, insert the nipple into the ends of the hoses and clamp tightly. this should get you home, as long as the leaks are from the heater core area.[addsig]

Sounds like the heater core, if you can get it for cheap go for it, and replace the heater core. Bypass the heater core for now, and check it over for anyother problems really good.
Hope this helps

...just a follow up thought... if the only thing wrong with it was the heater core leaking, don't you think the dealer would just fix it and sell it as a GOOD car? there's a reason its going to an auction...[addsig]

So your jeep is leaking, get use to it, Just marking its spot!! Hehe

If that is the only problem, might be a deal. Most of the heating system on YJ's are somewhat easy to inderstand and work on. the heater core in the only real pain that I have encountered![addsig]

Good point Dingus they wouldn't sell it if that was
all that was wrong with it ...It has to have many more
problems that aren't worth there time and $$$ to fix.... :-D [addsig]
