Working on the Jeep this weekend

I'll be turning wrenches tomorrow night and Saturday. In another thread I talked about buying a new Holley 350cfm carb. Today I bought a new radiator, uppper and lower hoses, and a thermostat. I have a problem with my jeep running hot with the AC above 65 mph and while driving in stop and go traffic. I checked and I have a two core radiator. I have talked to several who live in South Texas like me and they all say that down here with AC you need a three core radiator. I found a good deal on one and bought it. If I can get the radiator and carb on this Jeep it should be running great.

A/C? you dont need that its overrated take the top down, hehehe thats what i did when i was in texas for school the past 2 years

A/C.. it stands for air compressor... but for some reason they plumbed it into the climate control system

I worked on the Jeep until 1:00am Friday and then until noon on Saturday to get the Holley 350cfm and air/fuel gauge on. It is AWESOME! It runs so much better than the Carter. I looked down a few times at the tach to see if it was still running because it idles so smooth. I'm still working with the air/fuel gauge to get the jets and power valve right, but I am getting there. It's still a little rich this morning, but I'll hit the speed shop and get a little leaner jet today.

Jeeps came with A/C??? hehe

Awesome to hear that the CJ is running tip top! A buddy of mine had a 84 CJ and had a adapter manifold that he got out of JC whitney and had a small 4 barrel carb and that was one of the best running CJ's I ever had the chance to sit in!

I got AC. I live in the south, and if you don't have AC, you will stink... then again, I usually smell like exhaust when I get out anyhow. Oh well... maybe I'll turn it into an air compressor one of these winters.

i have a 500cfm holley on my 258 and it is awesome! just rebuilt it over the weekend and it is so smooth in transition from idle to power... i love it!

glad yours is working well also. one question, did you keep the stock intake? i have a clifford on mine and i believe that it has realy helped out.

brad.

Yes, I still have the stock intake. My goal was not to increase power, although it appears that I have. My goal was drivablilaty. My idle was so bad, and the carb had a dead spot at around 2000 rpm as well as surging at certain speeds and loads. The Carter was a hunk of junk. I think an organ grinder monkey sitting on top of the intake with a bottle of everclear could have produced better results. I think I have the jets dialed in now. I still may have a little adjustments to make, but I am getting there. I need to check out the power valve now. I have a 4.5 in it now and might go to a 5.5 to increase throttle response. First I need to see how the engine vacuum responds at 70mph.
