Does anyone know why there is such a big change for the 89, it seems that alot of parts companys do not offer parts for the 89? Is this when chrylser took complete control from amc ? My buddy bought this and is rebuilding from the frame up but is running into this problem alot with this thing.

the only real difference is that the 89 YJ came with a peugot transmission instead of an ax-15...

Yes I understand the transmission but what I am getting at is like if you where to look at alot of the parts books you will notice that they skip an 89 for instance complete brake line kits. I was just wondering because it is driving him nuts.

You all ready said what the big difference is in the above statement. It is a transision period jeep. Old parts new parts mixed togather in to a whole new animal. Just have to find the parts needed by looking at the old and matching up with the new. tug

actually it was the 87 wrangler that used the puke-it transmission. as far as the body goes the 89 is identical to all other 87-91 wranglers, in 92 they went to the family style roll bar. from 87-90 they used a carb in the 6 cyl, and a tbi in the 4 banger. after that they went to mpfi.

what exactly is your friend trying to buy that he cant find, then we can tell you if it fits.

The '89 is not an oddball at all, it's the '87 that's the transition year between AMC and Chrysler.

The Peugeot BA10/5 transmission was used '87 to mid '89.

The oddest things about the '87 is that early models have the NP207 transfer case (instead of the common NP231) and snap attachment for the softtop instead of the hidden rail system.

Rear shock mounts (top) welded to frame, entire brake line kit, there are all kinds off parts that you will not find for an 89. I understand that most parts interchange ,just wondered what the deal was.

I've never heard of a difference in '89 brake lines, they should be the same as '88 and '90 models. What's different about them?
