I'm not basing this on any kind of experience, but it seems you'd want the log range to go far down the center of the car, while the driving could shine off to the sides a bit (well, the right side at least, maybe not into oncoming traffic).
I agree with Terry, but have to add that Driving lights diffuse light down as well as left and right. You might be o.k. but mounting the driving lights above the hood may cause glare on the hood. The long range should be good though.
This is a common mistake many make, They place fog or driving lights on the windshield brackets unknowingly then have to put up with the glare.
