Where to Mount a Hi-Lift Jack on a YJ?

Re: RE: Re: Who

I like the hood mount. I think I'll paint it orange so I can show it off.

Seriously though, the hood mount is sharp. But it doesn't meet your criteria of free.

its very similar to that, actually i think its the same one, im not sure but a buddy of mine has one

It's hard to tell from the pic, but is that mounted at the very back edge of the hood, or on the cowl? How will it affect the way the hood opens? I like to open mine up and lay it against the windshield frame. Also, I've got the RamAir Induction scoop on my cowl vent, will that be in the way?

i believe it bolts down to the hood hinges, i dont know if it will interfere with your cowl or laying the hood all the way back, you could call quadratec and ask them?

I wasn't being a smartbutt and saying that the hood mount is for showing your jack off or trying to look "hardcore", if it sounded that way. I could see some of the Jeepers that run around my area doing it for that reason though. The hood or cowl is a nice place if you don't have room inside or a rack of some sort put it on.

Oh I know. I was just kidding... LOL. Ironcially, I was looking to put an orange jack on that very hood mount.

Re: RE: Flex-a-Lite Customer Service

Thanks Mingez. I don't know if I'll end up putting it there, though. Seems the majority of the mud I fling lands on the hood. I ordered the jack, the JackGuard case, and an accessory kit last night. I figure I'll most likely keep the jack in the garage till I'm going wheeling, then just toss it in the back of the Jeep. One less thing to worry about people stealing.

Well, the Hi-Lift Jack came yesterday, and the ORK came today. The freakin' JackGuard Case is on backorder. Bummer. I'm thinking I'll just fab some type of clamp system for the jack in the back of the Jeep to keep it from cleaning my clock in case of an accident. Then I can leave it home when I'm not wheeling, and take it along when I am. I really like the looks of both the front bumper mount and the hood mount, but neither of those positions would be conducive to good jack function after a few minutes of mudding, so they're definitely out for now. I may end up mounting the JackGuard on the bumper, though, as it would keep the mud and debris off the jack. I'll have to wait till I get it to see how it would look there.

The ORK is pretty cool. Don't know if any of you are familiar with it, but it comes with two short chains, two hooks, a D-ring, two piece that attach to the jack to make winching easier, a tree saver strap, a pair of Genuine Hi-Lift Jack Gloves, and a nice little nylon carrying case. The chains are used with the winching attachments, so that you can winch the length of the jack with one chain, hook the other chain into the long chain (that you supply) and release the tension on the first chain. Then you start all over again from there by running the jack all the way down again, hooking up the first chain and letting the other chain go slack. Once you've winched the length of the jack again, you just keep doing that till you're out of the mess you got yourself into. Looks like it'll work pretty slick! I'm going to give it a try this weekend in the backyard so that I know how to do it when I need it. I'll let ya know if I pull a tree over onto the YJ.
