And gas was 19.9 cents a gallon and minimum wage was $1.25 an hour. One week i worked 100 hours and took home $97. i thought i would be able to retire in a few years at that rate.

lol , it was a different time

Heck when I got my licsense gas was just over a dollar (that was 13yrs ago god I'm getting old) the last station I passed on my way to work this morning it was $3.35...I used to spend $13 dollars a week for fuel now its closer to $50.

Yup. I am so I got rid of my 79 gmc step side. It had the factory 350 with t350 trams and was a heavy half ton. It had ac too. I would fill up to drive to McAllen and it took about 70 bucks. I would switch tanks just outside of Raymondville and then have a half a tank when I got there. This was in 2001 or so. Imagine filling that sucker now, it would probably be 140 or so and since it got the same gas mileage my jeep......... Hmm, I need a 302 or a fuel injected 4 cylinder jeep.

I am glad i am so close to work

the reason i need a job is just so i can afford to feed my jeep lol that inline six sucks down gas like its goin outta style, still wouldent trade it for something more practical like a prius

Mine isn't so bad on gas..I avg 18mpg even with the lift and 31's (having a 5spd trans helps). If you think a Jeep's inline six is rough on gas try an f150 with a 300 straight six...

holy cow, you aren't joking

You aren't kidding...that was my only vehicle from 16-18 when I got my wrangler. I still kept the truck for a couple of years after that I just didn't drive it a whole lot.

i had one for almost a year, till someone totaled it for me while the wife was driving. it was a 95 wit ha 4" lift and 32s, eddie bauer edition maroon and silver. it was a beautiful truck but got terrible gas mileage

I have a 96 Ford W/ the 300 straight six and I get 18-20 Mgp with it.
Its 100% original. Everything I have put back on it has been original equipment.
200,000 and still going.
Don't drive it alot, but I would drive it anywhere if I had too.

mine was still the old style truck. i would drive it anywhere too but i would have to bring a lot of money. it was two wheel drive also but was lifted up. i bought it that way though.

my brother in law had an old early 80s f150 or f100 with the 300 straight 6 and his got in the low 20s on the highway also.

I had a 1996 f150 straight six white Eddie Bauer edition. I liked it a lot until some dip stick shot my tail gate with a pistol.
I don't remember the mileage but it had to be bad since they put two gas tanks in it...
Loved that pick up, I traded it in for a 2001 dodge 2500 cummins 4x4. I was hooked on 4x4s since....

My first car was a 1969 Chevelle Malibu with a bored 350, .06 over (sleeved) with a double injection stack below a Crower 6/71 super charger...3-5 MPG...I miss it, but I am happy I don't own it nor do I need to feed it. Back then gas was .63 a gal, premium, .92 a gal for race fuel, 96-98 octane, and 57$ for 50 gallons of alcohol grade race fuel, delivered. Blew 4.5 gallons of Alcohol a run with .220 injectors.
