Mmmm good question. I can't trace my fever back to the sandbox or even back to a specific Jeep that I knew when younger.
I just always wanted one, since age 15 when cars started being important to me. I used to watch them on the highway and was just so in love with the freeness of the Jeep, you know the open top, doors off look. I was a harley kid, my parents were hard core bikers so I knew the freeness of a motercycle at a very young age and I understood the long term pride and caring for a certain automotive brand. Once your harley, your never anything else and that is a very strong pride around those that own harleys. My parents were in a bad bike accident in the early 80's though and my good feelings of bikes went down hill. I also learned how DANGEREOUS they are. Over the years then, we lost many a family friend to motercycles. I knew I would never own a harley, or any other motorcycle.
My first vehicle, I wanted a Jeep, but couldn't afford it. Instead, I could have afforded a sweet mustang GT (quite the rage back then) but my parents refused to let me buy it. I ended up with an escort instead and after that even more drab family type cars.
Always knew someday I'd buy a brand new vehicle and when it came time last year I started looking at older Jeeps. Decided this year to buy a new one and am never going back.
Still, as I was as a child, I love the free spiritedness of a JEEP. I can't think of a better way to spend a warm day, with the top and doors off and sun beating down. Now that I am adult, I also find the pleasure of offroading that I knew nothing about then! These make it even more the fun vehicle for me.
So, that's just me and my Jeep. lol
