I think somewhere in my mind I always wanted a Jeep. But it didn't turn into full out "Jeep fever" until my buddy showed up at work after muddin. When you saw his jeep caked with mud, you just know what a good time he had. So that's what got me goin. I started to do some research. From there it was onto the jeep website, from there it was on to a Truck Trader magazine. The rest is history.

Childhood sandbox play. Dad had an early 40's modle and an ol wagon. always loved em but was to pratical to buy one. One day in need of a 2nd ride bought the ol yj and am hooked. tug

I drove a buddies Jeep the other day. I have always like the way they look, never liked cars (I'm from TX so that = truckguy). Anyway, I cant wait to buy one, and get it good and muddy. (hope that counts)

i've always been an offroad fan... and when it came time to buy my latest vehicle, I knew I wanted something that would work offroad, something that could transform into a fun summer driver, and something that was easy to maintain.... so i knew i wanted me a jeep

I remember being about 8 years old and driving in my uncles Jeep with the top down and the doors off. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world at the time. From that point on, I had always wanted a Jeep

I didn't buy one until I was 26 though. I always needed a car that was good on gas and didnt require much mantainence because I would drive to work. Then, once I started taking the subway to work I knew I could buy my Jeep and I did.

Now I say, let the good times roll!!!

My dad got a Jeep when I was 15 and I fell in love with them. Might be because I never had one of those Power Wheel's Jeeps when I was a kid.

1987 when my dad bought a new '88 YJ Laredo and, unfortunately for him, let me drive it still being in High School. I bought it from him in '91 after joining the army and he waited until '93 before getting a YJ Renegade.

I still think it goes way back to the sandbox days, though

Now that the wheels are spinning it's starting to make sense. I must have destroyed 10-15 RC cars as a kid. I would run them through mud, dirt and water, oh yea and snow too. All just to see if they could do it. They couldn't.

It's all becoming so clear......

The boss bought an old willy's for the farm. My dad took me for a ride to check out a whater hole for the cows. Fastforward 9 years and my brother made the mistake of letting me drive his 83 chev pickup that was very built. Could not rationalize buying a jeep until last year when I was sick of selling inadiquit 4x4 so I got my CJ.

A few years ago, my uncle bought a 2000 TJ. I had my learner's permit, but I had never driven with anyone other than my parents and I had never driven a stick. My uncle and I went mountain biking and afterwards he said he was to tired to drive. I was nervous because like I said, I had never driven a stick, but I did it with his help. A jeep drives just a lil different than the family van and the top was down and everything. I picked up on drivin the 5 speed pretty quick and drove back to my house without any problems... since that day, I was hooked. Been searchin for a jeep to fit in my poor college kid budget ever since. My goal is next summer, and hopefully by then I will have my jeep.

Was blowing a rooster tail in the ole sand box at the age of 4 and my tonka jeep was in the lead ahead of my dump truck and I was a smilin....

Fast foward a few years...10 or so and I got my first car.. a 69 malibu with a blown front end. 2 years and I was street racing a .120 bored over sleeved 350 with a Krowler 6-71 super charger...made that car go faster and faster till I couldnt afford the tickets any more.

I knew my drag racing days were over and I bought a 74 scout II. I lifted and dumped money into it and it was the 4x4 of my dreams...or was it?

Throw in a KZR 950 for a summer and a winter for fun.

Then I tried a 96 Chevy s-10 4x4 and had the boys at RPM racing do a class 3 racing system on it...I had to sell it since I kept breaking parts jumping it at the sand dunes and tried 98 dodge ram 1500 with 12 inches of lift and still wasnt satisfied.

Then I ran into Hollows eve and well... I havnt looked at another truck or car since. I am in a monogamous relation now with my jeep.
And my Tonka jeep? I still have her...she's a little rusted and doesnt throw the sand like she used to but it has taken me 35 years to realize that....
If you win the Baja .001 in the sand box with a jeep... you should stick with a winner and drive a jeep.

unlike most of us here, untill about a year ago i HATED jeeps. i wanted a international scout sooo bad i could taste it, and jeep was really a 4 letter word in my mind.... but ill still own a scout one day.... along w/ a jeep

i guess i first wanted a jeep when i was about 8 or 9... i was walking home from my grandmothers house and as i crossed teh street i caught a yj pulling a 3 wheel around a turn...no top no doors i was so set on a jeep.something about no doors no tops and loud music makes me all happy

LIke 5 months ago when I started to look for cars because I would get my license soon, I saw my brother-in-law roll up in his Jeep. It was awesome. I immediatley convinced him into buying a new car so I could get his Jeep. And props to me, it worked!

Mmmm good question. I can't trace my fever back to the sandbox or even back to a specific Jeep that I knew when younger.

I just always wanted one, since age 15 when cars started being important to me. I used to watch them on the highway and was just so in love with the freeness of the Jeep, you know the open top, doors off look. I was a harley kid, my parents were hard core bikers so I knew the freeness of a motercycle at a very young age and I understood the long term pride and caring for a certain automotive brand. Once your harley, your never anything else and that is a very strong pride around those that own harleys. My parents were in a bad bike accident in the early 80's though and my good feelings of bikes went down hill. I also learned how DANGEREOUS they are. Over the years then, we lost many a family friend to motercycles. I knew I would never own a harley, or any other motorcycle.

My first vehicle, I wanted a Jeep, but couldn't afford it. Instead, I could have afforded a sweet mustang GT (quite the rage back then) but my parents refused to let me buy it. I ended up with an escort instead and after that even more drab family type cars.

Always knew someday I'd buy a brand new vehicle and when it came time last year I started looking at older Jeeps. Decided this year to buy a new one and am never going back.

Still, as I was as a child, I love the free spiritedness of a JEEP. I can't think of a better way to spend a warm day, with the top and doors off and sun beating down. Now that I am adult, I also find the pleasure of offroading that I knew nothing about then! These make it even more the fun vehicle for me.

So, that's just me and my Jeep. lol

I've always liked jeeps since the days of playing with hot wheels and G.I. Joes. My Dad got an XJ when I was about 10, but it was destroyed in an accident when a drunk driver slamed into us and caused it to flip when I was 12 (We where all OK though :) )Then when I was about 15 I went off-roading for the first time in my friends grandfathers Samurai which fuled the Jeep bug even more. When it came time to start looking for a car when I was about to turn 16 I wanted a Jeep. I enjoyed the XJ my Dad had from a few years back but I wanted a CJ/Wrangler. So my Dad went out with me on the search for a used Jeep. After a bit of looking I found a great used 91 YJ fourbanger on 32 that was resonably priced, but when my Mom found out about the Jeep thing she said no way u will flip it  So I ended up with my Dads old Talon, which was the car he got after the XJ was crashed. Then in 99 when I was 21 and had saved up some cash I went out and bought my dream machine :p

I think the real question is how do we get rid of this sick need for a hunkof metal and rubber and wires and glass that we all so seem to need. hehehe tug

Keepin the alternator alive?

well it all started when i was about 5... i got my first powerwheels jeep. i went through 4 of them before it was all said and done (i kept burning out the little electric motors. then i began to have an interest in my grandfathers 1978 CJ-5 (which is in mint condition by the way), and learned to drive the great little 3-speed when i was about 10. i didn't really even consider purchasing a jeep as a first vehicle until i test drove a 1997 XJ... and was instantly hooked. now i've had it almost 2 years and have modified it quite extensively. what incredible vehicles!!!
