Wheel Spacers?

Does anyone have experience with wheel spacers? What brands do you suggest? Do they trash your bearings? They would be going on a 79 CJ with narrow track axles. I want a little more width without buying new axles.
Thanks…

I'm running a set on a 79 CJ that are 1" thick - had to have them to space the new 17" wheels out for clearance from the rear springs - they are excellent quality and look to last forever - got them thru Les Schwab - don't remember the brand name but could find out if your interested in them. LBR

I'm running 1.5" on d44s without any problems. Also got a buddy running 2" on a old willy's w/36" tsl for over 3yrs and no problems....

Are they safe for on-road driving too? I'm looking at 2" ones to bring my narrow track to wide track width.

Hey.. Thanks for the input! In reply to the last post I have been told spacers improve on-road handling when used with narrow vehicles. I was just worried about the extra stresses they might place on the bearings… JP magazine seems to stand behind the modification.

I was thinking about running 1 1/2" spacers for a total track width of 3".

no, the spacer doesnt cover the spindle nut. i have spacers on my 44 to get my wheels out of my steering and i can just put my socket in through the center to take my rotor/ hub off. it would be the same with them on a d30 unit bearing
