what type of dana gears in my differential?

i was gonna get some 4.88 gera sfor my differentials. but i need to know what size dana gears is in my jepp.. how do i tell that? people said cvount the bolts in my diff cover. but after i counts them how do i know if it is dana 30,35,40. can someone tell me how to fidn out.. i have 4 cyl jeep 1999 .. thanks

There should be a metal tag attached to the differential cover on the bolts. If it's no longer there, P.M. me your VIN number and i'll pull up the build sheet on your Jeep.

If you have a 5spd, should be 4.11 gears, or 3.73 for an auto.

Post up the numbers on the diff tag and we'll confirm it for you.

You have a d30 front axle and d35 rear, as the d44 rear axle option was not available with the 4cyl engine.

Whoever told you to count the diff cover bolts to identify which diff you have does not know what they are talking about. Every dana from the Dana 25 all the way up to the Dana 80 have 10 bolt covers.
