Hi,

Don't know the answer... but it would probably help others help you if you told us what transmisison you have

Well I got bad new for you. There really is no easy bolt up engine swap except to put another 4 cyclinder in it with less miles. You will altleast have the swap the Bellhousing too and probably the input shaft to the transmission. Its possible just a good bit of work. If you really want to do it let us know and I will give you more detail of what you will have to do

Open up the intake with a K&N of other good filter open up the exaust and let that out so it can breath. Get rid of the cat if you live in a place with no inspections. hollow it out other wise and add a flow master or something.

The 2.5l can be built to deliver a surprising amount of performance if the rest of the Jeep is built around that engine. You have to keep it lightweight. If you just can't live without the 9000#winch and the 400#s of bullet proof bumpers and tire racks and stuff like that(which there is nothing wrong with), then the 2.5l will probably always be somewhat of a disappointment unless you have some major cash and time to invest in it and then it will still lack the low-end grunt that you need for slow-speed fourwheeling. Gearing can correct this, but an underpowered and overgeared vehicle sucks on the road or when a higher wheelspeed is needed, like when mudding.

If you decide to swap, do not under any circumstances use the AX-5. That transmission is good behind the four because it is light and isn't a big parasitic drag on the engine, but it won't stand up behind any torque. They usually won't stand up to a hopped up 2.5l for very long, so something bigger is out of the question.

put a supercharger on it, it will cost alot less than doing a whole drive train swap on it, i was reading somwhere that they put a supercharger, and a inerta ring on the flywheel and compaired it to the 4.0 plus it would be be cool, check out jackson racing and Paxton I think both manufactures make supercharges for the 2.5

supercharger is about 3-4 grand... i guarantee i can swap a drivetrain for less than $1000

a supercharger would not be worth putting on that engine. With as much money that it involves, you might as well replace the engine and transmission.

I've swapped a 350 into a YJ and I think it'd be real tough to keep under $1000, considering the transmission and radiator also need upgraded.

Consider trading up to a 4.0L, that's the easiest and most cost effecient method of getting more power.

Otherwise, there are a lot of 4banger power making tips on the 4Bangers United Forum.

around here, i can easily get a 350/transmission combo for around 300-500 bucks... radiator, 100 or less... everything else is just labor

license plate light

Lower compression Turbo-Charge it . But plan on spending most of your time about 3500 rpm :)

The best and most easy swap is the Chevy 4.3 V6 for the YJ. I havent done it, but have heard only god things about the swap, it's easy and pretty cheap compared to even the 4.0 mopar... give it a try and ask around,

Re: NO WAY

Snitty, what would you do for the transfer case?

That's cheap for a drivetrain, and probably not a very common price.
