hello I just have a quick question my 92 wrangler is leaking water fron the seal that separates the windshield from the body. It looks to be like a foamy material that absorbs water with age rather then sealing it out. I replaced it before about six years ago I never have the windshield down. is their an aftermarket seal that is better then the factory or is there something else I could do for added protection. i am afraid my cd player will self destruct if it gets worse. thanks for your time.[addsig]

I had a problem with mine (I thought)...replaced it twice and it still leaked water. I found the water wasn't coming from the seal for the windsheild frame but directly under the seal. If you look on the outside of your jeep directly under the windshield frame where the vertical part under the frame meets the horizontal part of the hood you will notice there is seam sealer in there. It cracks over time and water will leak in behind your dash. I tried putting new seam sealer in there but it just cracked again. I found silicone to be the best. If this is the problem, run two peices of tape parallel to each other with the cracked seam in the middle and run a bead of silicone down it and smooth it out with your finger or a small putty knife. - To find out if this is where the water is coming in from, run a hose on your hood next to the windshield frame but not high enough to get any on the windshield frame seal. My windshield to cowl seal started leaking and I lost a Sony Explode CD player. When I replaced the seal, I also used a tube of silicone (the type used to seal glass house windows). I ran a ¼" bead the entire length of the cowl seal. That was 5 months ago, so far/so good.

The YJ windshield seals from the inside. When the seal goes bad, it will leak down into the dash. Also, if you have a hard top, the seal that runs across the top that seals the hard top to the windshield can leak.[addsig]

When replacing the cowl seal, it's recommended to use a sealer such as silicon on the cowl seal, I think the package for the cowl seal has this printed somewhere.

the exact thing happened to mine Joker. The water got in and ruined my sony explode. ha what a coincidence. I usually just keep a towel over the dash to absorb the water and wipe it off as it runs down the inside of my windshield haha  . quess i should fix it too.[addsig]
