unlimited or not?

So I have been doing allot of looking for a nice jeep that can still hold allot. I have ruled out Cherokee cause taking the top off is nice. As many of you know i crossed the line with my looking for a bigger car earlier and you all pointed out that I was wrong, and proved it, over and over and over again. Now I am looking at a 4 door wrangler. Whats your opinion on 4 door jeeps? Without the back seat are they really all that bigger. How does their extended length affect performance off road? Is upkeep any different?

any and all input is appreciated here. thanks in advance.

IMO, it's a preferrence. If you really desire to have more cargo space in the back and have the option of hauling 2 more people in the back without squeezing them thru the front door then i'd say the 4 door is a great choice. Just like any other vehicles on the road out there, short and long wheel base has their advantage and disadvantages. Turning radius is reduced in a longer wheel base but better performance when hauling a load in the back along with a pop up trailer on the hitch on the highway as opposed to the short wheel base. Certain obstacles offroad are sometimes easier challenged with a long wheelbase than it is a shortwheel base but most of the times can be succesfully manuvered by the drivers skill. Upkeep and maintainance is pretty much the same.

Definitely nailed that one. There is really nothing wrong with a 4 door. I sometimes wish I had a little more room with the three fat a*$ dogs I have. Though I don't think that would ever really stop them from breathing heavily in my ear like some creepy guy in the back seat.

The real question is what can you afford. The first 4 door came out in 2007, and will be a JK. You can get a 2004 TJ Unlimited for less cash. Personally I would have gotten a TJ Unlimited if it would have fit in my garage.

According to Kelly Blue Book (take it with a grain of salt):

2004 Unlimited is worth $12,780 through a private party
2007 4 Door JK is worth $18,830 through a private party

I am looking to spend under 14 grand (including accessories) but have noticed allot of 4 doors 4 sale in used dealerships because people couldn't afford their monthly payments, They are pretty cheap used.

I would go with the LJ or TJ unlimited, non-rubicon w/ 6spd manual.

they only made them 2 years, they are going to get harder and harder to find (like a CJ6 which was made for over a decade, don't see many anymore). plus that are a little narrower than the JK and the added wheel base is a plus offroad.

in all, it really comes down to taste and opinion.

i have driven a lot of jeeps. the repo company i worked for had the only contract for Chrysler financial in most of Utah. i loved driving the wrangler unlimited over the 2 door because they felt more stable driving down the road. i never got to take one off road for obvious reasons, but im guessing they would do about the same.

i would go with one of those long wheel base two doors. sorry, i don't know what they are called. all that extra space would be nice

i would still have a grand cherokee if some lady didn't fall asleep with cruise on and rear end us. perfect family jeep and good everywhere.

TJ 2 door unlimiteds were built 04 thru 06. JK Unlimiteds are 4 door starting in 07.
I have an 05 TJ unlimited and have no complaints. What I enjoy is the extra towing capability. Being able to load the family of 4 plus gear and do whatever. wheel, camp, fish.... The 6 speed manual trans is nice too. There are a few who owned TJ's and now JK's or JK Unlimited. I don't see much complaints.
